EVIR Pre- and Post-Trip Inspection and Ground Traffic Control. Tis helped the Call Center handle the daily flood of calls by providing real-time answers to parents and building principals about bus locations, driving patterns and exact times of stops. Te Call Center receives up to 1,300 calls a day and the Zonar software enables operators to give prompt, accurate answers concerning the 18,000 stops made by their buses daily. Simmons also estimates that the time saved by using the
EVIR for pre- and post-trip inspections will save the district about $110,000 annually by shortening the time allotted to conduct the inspections. “Tis type of savings means the technology really works,” Simmons said. Freeport uses Zonar’s entire electronic fleet management
system, including EVIR, Zonar’s Ground Traffic Control and V2J. Tese features enable Transportation Director Dallas Rackow to perform pre- and post-trip inspections, monitor speed and idle times, eliminate unnecessary miles driven and know when the stop arm is engaged. Students are tracked with Zonar’s ZPass. Rackow reported that the district saved 6,102 gallons of fuel, or $19,560. Zonar Vice President for Sales/Marketing Chris Oliver
said the grant program is Zonar’s way of keeping students safe while giving back to an industry that has supported it. “Te school bus market is the foundation of our customer
base,” Oliver explained. “Tat’s where we got our foothold. Te $50,000 grant is our way of saying thank you. We’re giving back to the industry that helped get us where we are today. It’s just the right thing to do.”
