Grant Program Helps Finance Mobile Communications, Fleet Management Cash-strapped school
districts across the
country can now obtain critical fleet management tools to improve their mobile communications thanks to an innovative grant program jointly offered by Zonar and the National Association for Pupil Transportation
(NAPT). Te NAPT/Zonar Transportation Equipment Grant awards $50,000 each year to a school district selected from a national field of applicants. Te grant, endowed by Zonar, provides a one-time award of $50,000 toward the purchase of the company’s entire suite of fleet management solutions. Tis is the third year for the landmark program. Applicants submit proposals detailing how they would utilize Zonar’s
solutions to improve operational safety, security and overall efficiency. Te winning proposal is selected by a joint committee comprising representatives from Zonar and NAPT. Previous awardees include Columbus (Ohio) City Schools
and Freeport (Ill.) School District 145. Te two districts represent both ends of the spectrum in student transportation: Columbus is a large urban district that transports 31,000 students daily with a fleet of 764 buses, and Freeport is a small district in northwestern Illinois with 4,200 total students and a fleet of 36 vehicles. Both districts report substantial improvement in
operational efficiency and savings after installing the Zonar solutions, and both say it would not have been possible without the grant. “Tis gives school districts, which are always short of funds, the opportunity and ability to put in place technology that otherwise we would not be able to get,” said Columbus City Schools Transportation Director Steve Simmons, who admitted he “jumped for joy” when he learned of the award. “We have just about everything Zonar
