MAKE MY DAY Re: “It’s All in How You See It,” August 2011 edition, page 82 Tis week [July 11], we had our young computer guy’s grandmother die,

and our health/disability coordinator’s father-in-law died. Sobering events to bring you back to those wonderful moments we can easily miss. Our centers are opening and many, many migrant farm workers and their

families are arriving. What an honorable group who are facing so many barriers and challenges with all this weirdo legislation and threats. Ten, our Tennessee State Head Start Collaboration Directors sent me this message: “You need to be very proud. I never eat a piece of fruit and don’t think of your program. Your families are amazing and your staff are God-sent.” Talk about making my day.

J Davis, Telamon Corporation, Knoxville, Tenn. Tennessee Migrant and Seasonal Head Start

STN EXPO KUDOS Te show was one of our best, and we’re excited about the new products. Your staff did a great job on the conference and to get us ready for it.

Tom Longanbach, Regional Sales Manager C.E. White Company New Washington, Ohio

I think that the STN show was a great success, including the Welcome

Party. Please sign us up for that again next year. I thought that the conference content/sessions also improved over last year, and I would encourage you to continue your efforts to elevate the quality of those sessions.

Ted Tien, VP of Sales and Marketing Tyler Technologies, Dallas

HEARD AROUND THE WEB LinkedIn Discussion: Does anyone know of upcoming changes to a four-day

school week in response to budget cuts? How does that affect transportation? Four-day work week, now, that is the beginning of real tangible savings

for both school districts, teachers, parents and transportation departments. Not only would it cut fuel costs and man-hours across the board, but it also represents huge savings in other areas as well. For instance, travel time, traffic congestion and fuel costs for all parties involved additionally, there would be a reduction in electrical, water usage, etc. Although, when you think about all the effects of a four-day work week on those with children, it poses an entirely new problem. What do I do with my child or children if my job does not convert a four-day work week? Tere are some interesting arguments posed on both sides, which I believe can be resolved through planning.
