ART BASED ON REALITY
Heike Rose and Bernd Schmidt-Pfeil are artists and metalcasters, creating sculptures in aluminum using their patented casting process (a derivative of investment casting). Their cast aluminum sculpture, “Main Entrance of an Aluminium Remelt Plant,” installed in a German metalcasting facility, depicts an engineer and metalcaster at work. The wall relief behind the sculptures represents the microstructure of an aluminum-silicon alloy. Several of Schmidt-Pfeils’ works, described as hyper-realistic, recently were on display at an international trade show for metalcasters and buyers of castings in Germany.
