Products Lift trucks Heavy-duty forklift trucks now with low emission engines
The Hyster range of 25-32 tonne heavy duty forklift trucks and dedicated container handlers is now available featur- ing the new Tier 4i/Stage IIIB low emission engines, offer- ing fuel savings of up to 15 per cent.
“The 25-32 tonne range, first launched in 2010, is comprised of nine models, three of which are ultra com- pact,” explains Antoon Cooijmans, Big Trucks product manager for Hyster Europe. “They are all intelligently designed to offer a blend of high productivity, reliable proven components, fuel efficiency and outstanding driver comfort for intense use in ports or heavy industry.” The range of nine models includes four conventional forklift models with between 25,000kg and 32,000kg lift- ing capacity at 1,200mm load centre. Three new ultra- compact models are built for operations where space is limited, with wheelbases of between 3.655m and 3.935m, and there are two container handlers which have a dedi-
cated carriage for the container spreader. All models have been re-launched featuring Tier 4i/stage IIIB compliant engines which are expected to deliver lower overall exhaust emissions and fuel savings of up to 15 per cent. The robust powertrain ensures increased dependability for long periods of peak power operation with protection for the engine and the three-speed transmission.
The Hyster Big Truck assembly line in Nijmegen is
already building the 25-32t range featuring the new Cummins QSB 6.7 engine (up to 270hp, 201kW) said to deliver rapid boost at low engine rpm and then maintains high boost at higher rpm independent of engine speed. This is due to the Variable Geometry Turbocharger which varies the exhaust gas flow into the turbine wheel. In addition to the Cummins engine technologies, Hyster has introduced new performance optimisation develop- ments, such as cooling on demand, RPM management and alternate engine idle speed, to help further reduce the total fuel consumption.
“The range is packed with features to reduce energy consumption and save fuel and helps drivers maintain comfort and concentration,” adds Cooijmans. Hyster

Gauges flag up worn chains
US-based Carolina Handling has equipped each of its 200 mobile forklift field service technicians with professional chain wear gauges developed and manufac- tured in the UK by Letchworth- based FB Chain.
Forklift cushions
keep cans safe Aston Manor Brewery is a leading drinks business that owns, markets and distributes a range of cider brands in the UK and globally. It handles contract packing production lines which run glass and PET bot- tles while a can line recently installed at the West Country facility has the capacity to fill 72,000 cans per hour.
Aluminium cans are easily damaged in the supply chain and if this happens the entire load can be spoiled says Graham Cosslett, factory manager at Aston Manor’s Tiverton plant. As a result Aston Manor has added Jayline Products’ load cushions to the forklift trucks. These help eliminate the risk of damage to canned products by forming a barrier between the load and the back of the forks as the pallet is picked up.
“I am pleased to say that we have not experienced problems with can dam- age since our can line went live and much of the credit for this must go to the load cushions,” Cosslet adds. Jayline Products T: 01386 854912

Chain wear gauges track chain wear at each service. If a chain is shown to have worn excessively it must be replaced. Carolina Handling’s team of field service technicians is responsible for the maintenance of thousands of forklifts through- out North and South Carolina, Georgia, Alabama and the central time zone of Florida.
“Our field service technicians
were very positive about the FB Chain gauges,” says Richard Ellsworth Carolina Handling’s Quality Assurance representative. “They found them easy to work with and liked that the gauges enabled them to measure chain in 0.25 per cent increments. This helps identify chain that is wear- ing quickly so that extra lubrica- tion can be applied. It also gives advanced warning that the chain is approaching the end of its life.” “Excessively worn chains are lethal, so accurate measurement is vital,” says FB Chain’s Peter Church. FB Chain

Acknowledging the link between driver comfort and productivity, designers at Mitsubishi Forklift Trucks have created three new ranges of forklift cabins.
Ergonomics and comfort were prioritised at every stage in the development of the VersaCab, PlusCab and ProCab ranges, for use on the 1.5 to 5.5 tonne Grendia family of LPG trucks. From a simple but effective roof-only option to a totally enclosed and air-condi- tioned steel structure, the VersaCab range of panel cabins offers a variety of flexible configurations. Choices available include the hi- vis overhead guard roof. It offers
operators an unobstructed
view while protecting against falling objects.
The PlusCab, a retro-fit panel cabin range, is for customers who already own a Grendia truck. It offers all-weather protection and optimal visibility and can quickly be fitted to an overhead guard. The luxurious ProCab fully floating, tiltable cabin is set on four floating rubber mounts, the cabin interior is effectively insu- lated against vibration and noise as well as the weather. Its ergonomic comfort features include centralised con- trols, a luxury seat, finger- tip hydraulic controls, and a fully lined interior. Mitubishi forklift Trucks T: 0845 371 3048 www.mitsubishi-

New low level order picker
Doosan has introduced the LEKF 20 low level order picker. Designed with a host of new features, the LEKF 20 aims to deliver high levels of productivity, technical simplicity and great value for money, while sticking to the Doosan belief of simple, powerful products with great performance. “The key to order picking is the ease of operation along with the comfort and safety of the operator, and the LEKF 20 really delivers,” says Wolfgang Dittmer, MD of Doosan Logistics Europe. The compact chassis design allows for easy manoeuvrability and better access, whilst the responsive electronic steering and ergonomic tiller arm makes for a superior driving experience for the operator.
New pedestrian buttons, featured on the side of the truck, allow the truck to travel forwards and backwards without assistance, allowing the operator to place stock on the pallets without hav- ing to continuously get on and off the truck, providing an economical solu- tion and increased productivity. A ‘presence sensing footplate’ allows for constant safety monitoring. By sensing when as person is standing on the order picker the device prevents the inadvertent operation of the tiller arm unless there is an operator on the truck. Doosan T: 01604 825600
