Exhibition preview PPMA show Washing and sanitising solutions
At the PPMA Show, Industrial Washing Machines (IWM) (Stand B20) is show- casing various washing and sanitising solutions for the processing industry. The new entry-level SAN100e model has been developed to offer dependable and effective sanitisation at an attractive price and is suitable for sanitising pro- duce in buckets, bags, tins and trays. The SAN100e conveys the produce
through a tunnel where a solution of sani- tising fluid in mains water is misted onto the items from top, bottom and sides. IWM is also displaying an adapted model of its EDi series of utensil wash- ers. The EDi13 DD model will be a two- door ‘dirty to clean’ system – for appli-
cations where such areas need careful and precise separation.
Also on display will be the carrier bas- kets for washing weigh and scale pans and its award-winning Crusader T400 Twin Tank tray washer, which offers an efficient two-stage cleaning process. Industrial Washing Machines T: 0121 4599511

Spiral conveyor flows between floors
Conveyor Systems (CSL) (Stand D11) will show details of a range of modular conveyors and using video technology, display a series of state-of-the art 3D visuals showing bespoke systems inter- facing to other OEM equipment in order provide cost effective materials handling solutions. CSL’s customised design ser- vice can be viewed as CAD draw- ings or real-time video clips, enabling customers to evaluate proposals in terms of through- puts and product sortation. Also on display will be a space saving spiral conveyor that can elevate/lower various packed items of different shapes and
Inkjet printer offers easy scheduled maintenance
Visitors to Linx Printing Technologies (Stand E31) will be able to see Linx equipment including continuous ink jet (CIJ), case coding, laser and thermal inkjet (TIJ) technologies, said to offer lowest cost of ownership, lowest maintenance, and maxi- mum reliability and uptime. The Linx CJ400, on show in the UK for the first time, is said to represent the first fundamental change in continuous ink jet printer design in two decades and will be the highlight of the stand. The CJ400 promises portability, fastest set-up and ease of use. A key innovation of the CJ400 is its Easi-Change Service Module,
Machinery safety
legislation update Visitors to the PPMA Show 2011 can attend a free legislation update from machinery safety specialists, Laidler Associates, a division of TÜV SÜD Product Service (Stand D56), high- lighting the impact the Machinery Directive has had and will continue to have on manufacturers and end-users. The presentation will be delivered by
Paul Laidler, head of TÜV SÜD Product Service’s UK machinery division. Laidler says: “How the Machinery
Directive affects manufacturers and end-users is made even more impor- tant with the constant and frequent introduction of new technology. Couple this with the fact that there is still a lack of knowledge surrounding the Machinery Directive and it is clear that there is the need for further education.” Laidler Associates T: 0333 123 7777

which can be changed in minutes using on-screen prompts. This means scheduled maintenance is easily completed without a trained technician or costly ser- vice calls.
Also on show will be the Linx 7300, designed to avoid the hidden costs of coding through low running costs; minimised production downtime, error-free coding and future-proofing. Dynamically adjusted service intervals ensure customers only pay for vital maintenance. The Linx 4900BC is a total bottle coding solution designed to cope with a range of environ- ments, specifically those that are
particularly wet and humid. For case coding applications, Linx is exhibiting the Linx IJ350 large character printer. Several other printers will also be on show during the exhibition. Linx Printing Technologies T: 01480 302100

Metal detectors for the food industry Fortress Technology (Stand B76) will be highlighting a range of high performance ‘Phantom’ metal detectors aimed at the food and pharmaceutical industries. On show in the UK for the first time will be the ICON and Stealth metal detectors, and Contact Dashboard Software. Also on dis- play will be the latest Vector inte- grated conveyor systems which features an audible or visual alarm to indicate when there has been metal rejects in order to help identify potential issues early. The ICON metal detector is said to deliver fast accurate detec- tion of metal contaminants, and
detailed data collection using robust Quad-Core processing. Product configurations, rejects and fault details are stored in an onboard database, accessible via USB or wired Ethernet. Collected data can be exported as Microsoft Excel or Adobe Acrobat PDFs. The modular Stealth extra rugged metal detector has fewer product parts said to improve its reliability. It has a control panel designed to withstand the harsh- est production environments. The Contact Dashboard trans- forms ‘Phantom’ metal detectors into a Critical Control Point. The graphical display shows perfor- mance results at a glance, giving clarity on events and activities by means of ‘traffic light’ images, graphs and bar charts. Fortress Technology T: 01295 256266

systems in action The versatility of its flexible screw con- veyors and pneumatic conveyors will be the main focus of Flexicon Europe (Stand B16) at this year’s show, where visitors will have the opportunity to see both conveying systems in action. The company is also introducing its UK Test Laboratory Service where it can validate the performance of both pneumatic and flexible screw conveyor systems using a customer’s actual bulk materials. Flexicon’s flexible screw conveyor is a totally enclosed system preventing contamination of the product and plant as well as preserving the moisture and temperature levels of the materials being conveyed. It can move material vertically, horizontally or to any angle – over, under or around obstructions. For bulk materials transfer over longer distances is Flexicon’s Pneumatic-Con dilute phase pneumatic conveying system available in a choice of opera- tional platforms.
Flexicon will also be showing its Single-Trip-Bag unloader, a Bag Compactor and Bulk Bag Conditioner. Flexicon T: 01227 374710
