Books | THE NETHERLANDS & CURACAO

“Do you have any dreams to which you aspire?”

“So many! I would love to be on a potential new Oprah show one day, so that I can inspire millions of people in one go. I would like to trigger them to think about their dreams and show them that anything is possible.”

Are you ever afraid you will run out of inspiration and creativity in your job?

No, never! Look at the world around us! There is inspiration everywhere! Even — I must say especially — in the smallest, most unexpected things and moments.

What is the most difficult thing in your job?

(I have) too many ideas, and I can only write so many books at one time.

What is the most fun part of your job? (The most fun part of my job is) putting everything I see and do together, instilling a central theme and surprising others with it. What I like to do during my motivational speeches is make people think, make their eyes sparkle.

Do you expect your way of creating books to change in the future?

Yes, but I don’t know yet how it will change. I am now writing a book entitled Did You Find Your Mr. Wrong Yet? I have no idea what is next.

Do you embrace the changes in the book industry regarding social media and technology influences?

Social media is great! (The Websites) open up a whole new world. Look at what happened in Egypt: a revolution without foreign assistance!

In which way do you think writing, art and design are different and/or similar?

We all see things differently. If you can make your view visible to others by writing, photography, painting or other art form, you open up a new world for people. That is something all artists have in common.

Do you aspire to collaborate with an artist from another artistic discipline?

Yes! I have seen the power of video / documentary and would love to use it more, but it is not my area of expertise. I know others have the skills but may lack a clear message. I would love to cooperate!

Do you follow any philosophical or psychological approach in making your designs?

Go with the flow! Don’t push too much; creation does not need to be hard work.

What would be your ideal home?

The house I live in Curacao: It is by the water, overlooking the boats. It is mostly open and catches the wind, so I don’t need air-conditioning. It exudes a very natural feeling and is in touch with nature.

Do you have any dreams to which you aspire?

So many! I would love to be on Oprah show one day, so that I can inspire millions of people in one go. I would like to trigger them to think about their dreams and show them that anything is possible.
