Buy it right first time


Industry standard testing is key to avoiding counterfeits, advises AntonWurr, director ofmarketing at independent distributor, America II Europe


Purchasing products of doubtful origin may appear very tempting to buyers for a number of reasons. Negative attitudes towards big business, a desire to demonstrate good ideas within a system that is not friendly to small businesses and costs that can be significantly below the retail price can all contribute towards the usage of counterfeit parts. In any case, more often than not, the buyer will be unaware that the devices they order are counterfeit, having been fooled into buying them.


The long-termdamages caused by counterfeit components can


be significant, not only compromising performance and safety when componentsmalfunction, but also carrying the potential threat of fatal errors that could disrupt critical functions.


Beware of rogues


Unsurprisingly, OEMs are wary of rogue suppliers, and the statistics prove them right. The European Commission has estimated that between seven and ten per cent of the world’s trades involve counterfeits, resulting in an economic damage
