Learn how to achieve efficient power solutions

Partnership drives automotive delivery

Rutronik will now be distributing the entire Renesas product range throughout Europe, with particular focus on the automotive sector. As Renesas' strategic automotive distributor for Europe, Rutronik can supply automotive customers not previously directly served by Renesas. Other focusmarkets include industrial and renewable energies.

Avnet Abacus seminars will focus on power systemchallenges

Power, interconnect, passive, and electromechanical distributor, Avnet Abacus, is teaming up with manufacturers of power components to deliver a series of free one-day seminars in five locations across Europe. The events will focus on the challenges faced by power system engineers, with events across Europe taking place throughout October and the UK event taking place 3 November in Newbury.

Avnet Abacus and its franchises

Aimtec, Cymbet, Emerson, Enpiron, Excelsys,Murata Power Solutions, Power Integrations and Schaffner will provide an overview of environmental and energy efficient directives impacting power supply design.

European marketing director for

Avnet Abacus, Cor van Dam, explained: “Efficient power use affects everyone. There are many issues: new mandatory regulations will require standby (no- load) energy consumption to approach zero watts; consumers demand that battery-powered devices have a long life between recharging; and LED lighting systems must be powered correctly or the benefits are wasted. Our seminars address these topics and we encourage delegates to raise their own areas of interest during the Q&A sessions.”

There will also be tabletop

presentations from manufacturers of associated power products including Molex, Pulse and TE Connectivity.

Evaluate RS-485 circuit protection with these boards fromBourns

Farnell has announced an exclusive agreement with Bourns to stock two RS-485 evaluation boards. The boards are designed to provide customers using Bourns' TBU High- Speed Protector (HSP),metal oxide varistor (MOV), gas discharge tube (GDT) and transient voltage suppression (TVS) products a fast way to evaluate circuit protection on RS-485 serial device port solutions.

Check out one-stop circuit protection Bourns claims its TBU HSP solution can

help increase surge and transient protection levels on RS-485 ports and reduce the PCB space required for circuit protection. RS-485 is prevalent in industrial settings, where it has to operate in noisy and harsh electrical environments. In order to avoid overloading the system, robust and reliable circuit protection is required.

In addition to the two evaluation boards,

Farnell stocks almost 6,000 Bourns products. Director of product, asset and supplier

management, Farnell Europe,Mike Buffham, said: “Evaluation boards are an important part of how Farnell helps speed and simplify new developments. By offering the Bourns evaluation boards, plus a range of their products, and the opportunity to design using our element14 knode platform, we provide a one-stop location for circuit protection in RS-485 port interface designs.”

Renesas Electronics, Heiko Zimmermann, explained: “Just like Renesas, Rutronik has its own automotive verticalmarket team, made up of product and application specialists. This focused approach, combined with extensive expertise and successful cooperation to date, led us to select Rutronik as a strategic distribution partner for this keymarket.”

Application engineers fromthe two

companies work closely to provide technical support and design-in support for automotive customers. Renesas also provides its distributor with special automotive training.

Linemanager at Rutronik, Daniela Treuer, added: “Renesasmicrocontrollersmeet

Renesas provides its distributor, Rutronik, with special automotive training

requirements for high-quality, innovative components with long-termavailability. Automotive certification of the products also plays an important role.”

Cinch has developed a new fibre optic expanded beamconnector designed to allow amultitude of variants, such as power, signal, fibre and RF, within one connector formfactor. The Hyperion contact is based on the ARINC 801 aerospace specification and uses a technique called active alignment during themanufacturing process for improved dB data losses.

Director of sales, Paul Connelly, said: “Cinch has been a reliable producer of

aerospace connectors over the last 50 years, however this is the firstmajor new aerospace contact/connector design we have produced in over 20 years. Backing fromour new parent company, Bel, has enabled Cinch to deliver what will be the first ofmany new aerospace connector technologies over the next couple of years.”
