SMALL GATE OFFERS
BIG PROTECTION Checkpoint Systems launches new security antenna designed that can be easily installed
Alpha, a theft solutions provider and a division of Checkpoint Systems has announced the launch of Nano Gate, a small gate that it claims can offer big protection against theft. Nano Gate is a small security antenna that can be easily installed in “unprotected zones” within a store where thieves can hide and attempt to remove security devices. Nano Gate works exclusively with Alpha’s 3 alarm tagging technology extending the tag’s reach and enhancing its value as a security solution.
Alpha said its Nano Gate is simple to install – six screws and plug-and-play. It requires no wires, tuning or service contract, and comes with a battery back-up option. Merchandise protected with Alpha 3 alarms alerts staff when a product is being tampered with instore, activates an electronic article surveillance (EAS) alarm when unpaid merchandise is leaving the store, and starts a continuous alarming for fi ve minutes once stolen merchandise has left the store.

SOFTWARE AUTOMATES
PACKAGING BY BARCODE System allocates correct fulfi lment options using foam padding system innovation
A new software product launched for use with the foam padding system FOAMplus from Storopack allows selection of the right bag size and fi lling by barcode. A packer scans the barcode on the transport packaging dispenses the specifi c foam bag required for the consignment in question at the press of a button. At the same time, onscreen photos or videos illustrate how to best position the packing material and goods in the package. The software is designed to simplify the fulfi lment process,
particularly for new employees, who may have language diffi culties, and practically eliminates the possibility of operating and application errors, while increasing productivity at the packaging station. Following initial confi rmation, all the bags required for a particular package can be dispensed either manually or automatically. Optional time intervals can be selected for the automatic mode. And follow-on consignments can also be automated. Otherwise, the operator uses the scanner again to read in the next barcode.

RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES GET £40-MILLION BOOST Nexeon scales up to production capacity of silicon anode manufacturing process
Rechargeable lithium-ion battery technology received a boost recently with the investment of £40 million in Nexeon, the UK start-up pioneering the use of silicon anodes in place of carbon. Nexeon plans to use the Series C round
of venture capital funding to establish a world-class manufacturing facility, scaling up the production of its latest silicon anode

materials to around 250 tonnes per annum, representing a commercial supply level. Use of silicon anodes in Li-ion batteries produces a signifi cantly higher performance and overcomes the limitations of present- day technology. Batteries with higher energy density can offer longer time between charges, higher power output, smaller size or a combination of these benefi ts. The
company said they are eagerly awaited for application in mobiles, laptops and many other consumer devices, as well as having important application in electric vehicles and the storage of renewable energy. It added that was already involved in commercial negotiations and customer-led projects.
