and delivery of the pair is expected in early 2012. OSD’s UK subsidiary, OSD-IMT, was also awarded a contract, in late June, to design a 99m cable laying vessel, with a deck loading capacity of 5000tonnes, by Samsung and Boskalis-SMIT Engineering.

Patrol boats SeaArk police

boat delivery US-based boatbuilder and designer SeaArk Marine has delivered an 11m patrol boat to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources (DNR) police authority, located in Stevensville, Maryland. Te vessel, christened Mattawoman, has been built to SeaArk Marine’s 3612-V Dauntless Ram Class specifications and she will patrol Chesapeake Bay, the Potamac River and surrounding estuaries that fall under the jurisdiction of the Maryland DNR. Mattawoman has been constructed from

all-welded, marine grade aluminium and features a deep V variable deadrise hull, designed by Boston- based C.Raymond Hunt & Associates to grant the vessel’s four-man police crew a smooth ride and a greater degree of stability, as well as a climate- controlled pilot house. Te vessel has been fitted with two Cummins QSC

8.3 inboard engines, each rated at just over 360kW and granting the vessel a maximum speed in excess of 31knots. A 9kW Kohler generator provides the vessel’s onboard electrical requirements. Mission-enhancing installed equipment include a Furuno 1832 radar; a Garmin GPSMAP 4212

package; an infrared camera, supplied by Hurley; and an Icom radio. SeaArk Marine has previously supplied vessels

in its Dauntless and Commander Ram Class patrol boat series to the Maryland DNR.

Ferries Bespoke ferries for

Canada Sweden-based designer Knud E. Hansen has sealed a deal with the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador (GNL), Canada, to produce the basic design for six bespoke sister ferries, all to be operated on the intraprovincial south shore routes off the coast of Newfoundland, and to be designed to handle the harsh climate typically encountered on those routes. Each of the new ferries will feature a length of 41m

and a passenger capacity of 36, and will operate at a service speed of 12knots. Special features are set to include a multi-use cargo deck, a cargo hold and facilities for disabled persons. Construction is set to be handled at an as yet unspecified shipyard in the vicinity of Vancouver. The contract represents the second ferry

arrangement between Knud E. Hansen and GNL, following an agreement for the former group to develop an 80m, environmentally friendly ferry, bound for year-round operation on the territory’s Fogo Island route. The Fogo Island Ferry will carry a maximum of 200 passengers and 64 cars at a service speed of 14knots in open water and 4knots in sea ice.

The SeaArk 3612-V patrol vessel can reach a top speed of more than 31knots.
