Siemens named as Thameslink supplier


The Siemens team at Railtex ended the show on a high, having just learnt that the company had been named preferred bidder to supply a new fleet of trains for the Thameslink cross- London network. Siemens and Cross London Trains (XL Trains), a consortium of finance partners Siemens Project Ventures GmbH, Inisfree Ltd and 3i Infrastructure plc, were selected by the Department for Transport to fulfil the Thameslink Rolling Stock Procurement Programme. Subject to financial


closure and conclusion of the multi-billion pound contract, Siemens will build and maintain around 1,200 dual-voltage EMU cars based on its Desiro City vehicle concept. Assembly of the trains will take place at plants in Germany and Austria, though Siemens says up to 600 skilled jobs in

Siemens stand was a model of a design concept for a next-generation train for London Underground’s deep-level Tube lines. The concept has been created by Siemens at the request of LUL ahead of the eventual procurement of new trains for the Bakerloo and Piccadilly lines, a process expected to start next year.
