New connectivity products presented by HARTING included the Gigabit module, part of its Han-Modular connector system, designed for high Ethernet data transfer rates in harsh environments. Protected by a die-cast metal housing, the module allows signal and power contacts to be combined in the same unit and is optimised for use in rail applications.
CIS upgrade from Hima-Sella
Among recent achievements by communications specialist Hima-Sella, UK agent for Funkwerk Information Technologies Karlsfeld GmbH, was completion of improvements to the customer information systems (CIS) at Harrogate station for Northern Rail. This included delivery of new long line public address and information screens as part of scheme to replace the former standalone CIS. As a result, Harrogate is now connected to the Funkwerk system at Newton Heath and to Northern Rail’s Central Operations Room at York. A station interface unit (SIU) links the station
to the CIS servers via the existing secure IT network, allowing operational staff to issue real time passenger information and automated public address announcements using VoIP technology. Railtex was a great success for Hima-Sella. Marketing Manager Janet Smith said: “Thanks very much for organising a great event. We had a high level of interest in our stand and our demo kit and have secured enquiries already which are directly as a result of the contacts we made at Railtex. We will most definitely be at the next Railtex.”
Cable management innovations
The impressive LH Group stand featured an MTU-engined powerpack from an Iarnród Éireann Class 22000 DMU. The company is undertaking intermediate and heavy overhauls on 200 of these modules for the Irish operator.
