CSC responds to industry challenges
Technology consultancy CSC, which kindly sponsored the successful Networking Reception on the opening day of Railtex, used its presence at the show to highlight its specialised capabilities in the rail sector. The company has an extensive and growing portfolio in the market, serving many leading European operators. Areas covered include passenger information and fleet management systems, the Boomerang™ customer relationship management solution for public transport and through a global strategic alliance with Qnamic, whose Intelligent Resource Management (IRM)® portfolio includes RailOpt™, a rail optimised solution aimed at train
and freight operating companies. Also offered is a comprehensive, modular IT
operational traffic management system called the Rail Control System
and technological framework that enabled international high-speed operator Thalys to introduce a pioneering satellite-based Wi-Fi service on its trains, which run through four countries. CSC also worked

on-train systems was on display by Rail and Road Protec GmbH – R2P. Exhibiting for the first time at Railtex, the German-based company has recently opened a UK office in Maidenhead and appointed Balvinder Chana as its Director of UK Operations. In CCTV technology the
company says it is the leading supplier of rail-approved hybrid recorders and is able to supply both analogue and digital CCTV solutions for trains and buses. Its systems are already installed on several trains in the UK. The extensive portfolio

includes on-train saloon CCTV, forward- and rear-facing CCTV systems and DOO (Driver Only Operation) systems. Features include real time wireless retrieval of footage, MJEPG, MPEG4 & H.264 compression technologies, up to 850 FPS high resolution and a pixellation option for data protection. Also supplied are
maintenance-free automatic passenger counting (APC) systems claimed to deliver accuracy of more than 95 percent, on-train passenger information systems (PISs) with Wi-Fi and 3G transmission, and on-train infotainment systems.
And R2P’s fleet management systems offer operators real time video management, live fleet tracking, evaluation of vehicle data and remote vehicle diagnosis. Balvinder Chana joins R2P
after recently working as Head of Infrastructure at National Express Rail Division and Commercial Director at Petards Joyce–Loebl Ltd. Commenting on his appointment R2P Managing Director Ulrik Ortiz Rasmussen said: “We are delighted to have Balvinder on board and his operational experience in the UK rail industry is invaluable to R2P.”
