Six Feet and In You have developed a consistent pre-putt routine
and found the correct putter and ball. Now let’s start knocking in those six-footers. My favorite drill for short putts is the “railroad”
drill. Grab two alignment sticks and place them on the green about six inches apart. They should lie parallel to the hole on a fl at part of the green, just like a railroad track. Start two feet away and hit some putts. Work your way back to six feet. Focus on your tempo, keep your head down through contact and let the railroad tracks aid your line to the hole. During your next practice session, spend half your time on this drill. You will see instant results on the golf course.

Tools of the Trade Let’s take a look at your putter and golf ball. In my
experience as a golf professional, most players are using a putter that is too long. A putter that is too long prohibits you from making a fl uid stroke and achieving solid contact at impact. You end up adjusting your stroke to the putter. Check with your local golf professional to ensure your putter is the correct length. Standard length off the rack is 35" but depends on height and posture, so get fi tted for the correct length. Most golfers’ putters should fall closer to 33 1/2." The second piece of your arsenal is the golf ball. Do you use the same make and model of golf ball every round, or do you play whatever is in the bottom of the golf bag? Test out some different models and fi nd one that feels great off the putter. Stick with that same type of ball, and your feel will become more consistent on the greens.
putter that is too long causes the toe to rise off the turf.
These three tips should help you
be more aggressive on the greens and ultimately make more putts.
