From the Editor Did you pay for your

drink the last time you were in the 19th hole? Our POINT/ COUNTERPOINT debates who should pay the hole-in-one tab and our cartoon makes light of golf ’s tradition of the honoree picking up the bill. With drink specials and

pristine conditions we are proud to celebrate the 25- and 15-year anniversaries of POPPY HILLS and POPPY RIDGE this summer. It is hard to

believe NCGA golfers have called Poppy Hills home for a quarter of a century. The unmatched value of both championship courses is always top-of-mind when members discuss the benefi ts they appreciate most. Last year alone, MEMBERS SAVED MORE THAN $7.5

MILLION IN GREEN FEES in Pebble Beach and Livermore at the NCGA-owned properties. That staggering number doesn’t even take into effect the savings in the pro shops and restaurants. As we improve and upgrade our facilities we will continue to put the member fi rst with savings and benefi ts that no other quality facility can match. With more and more people tied to their mobile

phones we decided to create a new, interactive platform for the Association’s website, NCGA.ORG. The mobile ver- sion is designed specifi cally for phones and devices with screens approximately four inches or smaller. The interface has four of the most popular tabs on the home page (post a score, course directory, rules and tournament central), as well as a place to enter your NCGA number to check a handicap index. You now have the option to be “remembered” by the site and

during the next visit a realtime personalized lookup will be displayed. Our next progression is an NCGA app that we plan to unveil later in the year. The cover story highlights golf legend JOHNNY

MILLER and his involvement with Napa’s SILVERADO RESORT. As part-owner the two-time major winner has redesigned the North Course and has a similar vision for changes to the South’s 18 holes. Miller’s goal is to

Silverado

make Silverado an iconic, family-friendly destination with golf courses that can provide a test worthy of the world’s best golfers. Contributing writer Mark Soltau covers the PGA

Tour for Tigerwoods.com and knows a thing or two about the best golf has to offer. His inside-the-ropes access for the last 70 MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIPS provides readers with a guide to all of golf ’s majors chock-full of anecdotes and details the average golfer would never see on TV. From travel stories on KIAWAH ISLAND and FRANCE to

coverage of the 100th playing of the STATE AMATEUR at The Olympic Club, this summer edition is fast-paced and entertaining. Here’s hoping your next golf round is just as enjoyable.
