Africa set to become the next investment frontier

14 June 2011: As a result of the spread of democracy, de-regulation and digitisation across Africa, the continent looks set to become a venue for foreign investment and a great opportunity for South African businesses. However, companies looking to attract foreign investment must have a comprehensive and carefully implement business strategy.

This is according to Foluso Phillips, founder of Phillips Consulting in Nigeria and South Africa, and chairman of an array of corporates and business bodies, who was the main speaker at the annual Africa Day Seminar at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB). Phillips, who is an expert in market entry strategies for companies expanding into Africa, says that crucial changes occurring across the continent - most notably, increased mobilisation, efficient use of resources and corporate governance structures - are helping to create a more attractive environment for foreign investments.

“There is no doubt in my mind that Africa is positioning herself to be the next new frontier. South Africa, in turn, is uniquely positioned to do a lot more on the continent than any other country due to its technology levels, infrastructure and strength as the leading economy in Africa.”
