THE 32-strong, four-star Lindner hotel group
opened its third property in Frankfurt at the end of June. Called the Lindner Hotel &
Sport Academy due to its location next to the city’s sports stadium, the Commerzbank Arena, it is surrounded by the Frankfurter Stadwald, the forest district south of the city between the airport and downtown. The hotel is a new build, 111-
bed hotel with a sports theme, surfacing on items such as bedheads, which are detailed in gold, bronze or silver and on the
walls which are festooned with photos of athletes. There are nine meeting rooms
on the ground floor, flooded with natural light. Several can be combined to create larger spaces, the maximum being 250. There are also three boardrooms on the first floor for up to ten. The hotel also has a restaurant and bar, with courtyard terrace. Wifi is available throughout the property, but is charged for. Lindner’s portfolio includes
nine hotels outside Germany, in Majorca, Antwerp, four in Switzerland and three in Austria.

with more luxury hotels than any other company – across the St Regis, Luxury Collection and W brands – the Starwood group has a strong pipeline of new hotels and renovation projects on the cards. There are ten new St Regis hotels opening over the next year in places as diverse as Doha, Mauritius and Florence, plus two in Abu Dhabi, and renovations in, among others, the Gritti Palace in Venice, Hotel Alfonso X111 in Seville and Hotel Marias Christina in San Sebastian, Spain. The Abu Dhabi property on
the Corniche includes a sky-high bridge between two towers which houses an all-glass suite. Renovations completed in London, at the Lanesborough,
include the addition of a huge 4,000ft2, four-bed suite at £14,000 a night. “We have a discreet audience
of government, banks and financial sector companies,” explains Paul James, global leader, St Regis and Luxury Collection, “and the largest percentage of loyalty guests than any other brand.“ He adds, “We grew to 12 hotels organically and want to triple by 2012, but want to make sure it’s repeatable.” New city locations to have been sounded out include Paris, Madrid, Sydney and Los Angeles. The group began with the St
Regis in New York, with its famous butler service, and soon spread to Beijing, Aspen and Rome. It has a suite promotion running until the year's end, with a second night at just US$4.
