A NEW Flying Scotsman express service between Edinburgh and London King's Cross is the highlight of East Coast's new timetable and wide-ranging improvements to services announced at the end of May. The new four-hour service departs Edinburgh Waverley each weekday at 5.40 stopping only at Newcastle, at 7.03, and arriving at London King's Cross at 9.40. The express service chops over 20 minutes off the operator's other services on the route, and it has renamed one of its locomotives as the Flying Scotsman. East Coast has also introduced week-round services from London to Harrogate and London to Lincoln – the first for 20 years – and upgraded its First Class product to feature a Quiet Coach and a complimentary at-seat food and drink service. East Coast's managing director, Karen Boswell, says, “The Flying Scotsman, improved First Class offer and timetable will help us to continue to grow our market share against the airlines. “They represent the biggest improvements to the East Coast route for a generation and will bring more seats, more services and many faster journeys for millions of customers.“ East Coast's market share on the Edinburgh to London route
