‘Sam’ - a true quarry fox


Sam (pictured left) is a true quarry fox, one of a litter of 6 cubs born in the Old Town Quarry in Weston Super Mare where she chose to stay and make the place her home. The remaining cubs dispersed to other parts of Weston and the adult female fox never returned. Sam had the place to herself (apart from the badgers!) and a few months later gave birth to her own cubs. Sam became badly infected with mange and so was captured and taken by a Secret World response driver for treatment and was released back again a few weeks later. Having visited her during treatment, Secret World gained another volunteer - the grateful manager of the Old Town Quarry Nature Reserve - David Lewis.

Springwatch - Unsprung


Tarn, our most recent baby otter and Pauline travelled to appear on Springwatch-Unsprung.


Tarn travelled in her pod that she was in when she first came to Secret World and lived in Pauline’s kitchen. Great care was taken to not upset her in any way and it was great to share her with the team at Springwatch. When she got home she took two bottles of milk and two fish and went straight to bed in the cubby hole!
