Brean14 Sunday 30th October 2011
Get together with your friends, family, class mates or work colleagues this Halloween for the ‘Brean14’!
Every year, more and more people flock to the South West for a short break or family holiday, swelling the ranks of those of us who are lucky to live here all year round. After all, the South West is one of the most beautiful areas of the country, with visitors and residents alike benefiting from the natural beauty of the wooded hillsides, the moorlands, the dramatic coasts, winding rivers and wide open spaces that the area offers.
Thankfully, the world is waking up to the fact that we humans are not the only species that matter, and that wildlife is an integral part of this stunning environment. However… the South West has had the biggest population growth of any UK area in 20 yrs. This has led to more traffic, more road accidents, more pollution and higher density housing. All this
encroaches on the natural habitat of our
diverse mix of wildlife. The result? Wildlife is in
trouble, especially in the South West. With more and more animals and birds

being orphaned, injured or falling ill, often through human activity, it is more important than ever to do everything we can to help our wildlife.
Secret World Wildlife Rescue has been caring for injured and orphaned wildlife for over a decade. As a charity receiving no Government funding, Secret World relies on the generosity of its supporters to continue its work. Join us this Halloween for the ‘Brean14’ - an exciting sponsored walk, run or cycle ride along the magnificent sweep of sand stretching from the holiday villages of Berrow and Brean to the seaside resort of Burnham-On-Sea. Those wishing to take on the full challenge head off from Warren Farm Leisure Park in Brean (
www.warren-farm.co.uk) and continue to the half way point - the “Lighthouse on Legs” – a distinctive landmark built in 1832. You will be cheered on by our check point marshalls as you re-trace your steps back towards Brean and cross the finishing line knowing that you have helped injured and orphaned wildlife. For those who prefer a shorter challenge there is also a 4 mile Fun Walk. Why not take part dressed in your favourite Halloween fancy dress and our judges will be on hand to award prizes to the best costumes! Lots of activities will be available for
