BRINGING BACK OLD FAVORITES, AND SOME NEW ONES AS WELL Many speakers from past STN EXPOs are back again this year,


including Peggy A Burns, Esq., who will be moderating the open- ing general session “Federal Civil Rights Laws & Student Bullying/ Harassment” on July 24, which will also include panelists Marisa Weisinger of Innovative Transportation Solutions in Houston and Alexandra Robinson, NAPT’s president-elect. Burns, the owner of Education Compliance Group, will also co-present a general session with NAPT President Dr. Linda Bluth the follow- ing day called “Systemic Problems: Anticipating and Responding to Transportation Challenges and Issues.” Tis year will also see the return of the bus evacuation work-


shop, with Charley Kennington, Denny Coughlin, and Cheryl Wolf returning to talk about the second phase of an evacua- tion and lessons learned last year. Tey will be joined by Marisa Weisinger. Coughlin will continue with this theme in his “Collab- oration with Local First Responders on Developing Emergency Plans” workshop. Annalloyd Tomason, executive director of the Alternative


Fuel Vehicle Institute, will present a panel discussion titled “Al- ternative Fuels: Making the Right Choice.” Te session will also include bus operators from across the country with specific alt- fuel experience. Maintenance-minded attendees will also have


the opportunity to discuss retrofits during the “Retrofit Technol- ogies for Diesel School Buses” panel discussion led by Antonio Santos of the Manufacturers of Emission Controls Association and will include representatives from Donaldson, Baumot, Hug Filtersystems and Cleaire.


SEE SOMETHING, DO SOMETHING ABOUT BULLYING An overview of a newly-released bullying intervention and


prevention program developed by the U.S. Department of Educa- tion and NAPT specifically for school bus drivers will be available this summer to STN EXPO attendees. Tis one-hour presenta- tion will touch on the main points of two 90-minute to two-hour modules. Te first is “See Something, Do Something” that deals with how school bus drivers can recognize bullying behavior and effectively respond to it. Te second module is “Creating a Sup- portive Bus Climate” that shares recommendations on how to foster an environment of mutual respect on the bus to prevent bullying from occurring in the first place.
