Watch out chip suppliers. Nearly 25 percent of respondents to a recent reader survey said they may consider a change in chip suppliers over the next six to 12months By Gina Roos
Buyers plan on purchasing a host of components including SMT power inductors, capacitors, power management ICs, batteries and displays over the next six to 12months, according to the North American Readers Survey 2011 conducted by Electronics Sourcing North America (ESNA). The survey also finds that nearly 25 percent of respondents will be considering a change in chip suppliers over the same time period.
Here's what purchasers had to
say about some of their upcoming component purchases.
For passive components, over
the next sixmonths, nearly 39 percent of the survey respondents said they anticipate either designing in or purchasing SMT power inductors, while 37 percent said they expect to design-in or buy capacitors. About 54 percent of respondents also plan to purchase some kind of display over the next 12months.

industries, 59.3 percent of survey respondents said they anticipate purchasing powermanagement ICs fromsuppliers including National Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics and Texas Instruments.
Buyers also want to receive some of their
connector orders in less than three days. Nearly 28 percent of survey respondents said 10 to 24 percent of their connector orders need to be shipped in less than three days, while nearly 52 percent said they require <10 percent via fast delivery.

Nearly 43 percent of survey respondents will purchase 1 to 5,000
sensors in the next sixmonths, while almost 15 percent will buy more than 5,000 units.
