Building Trade Tools & Equipment
In the last issue of ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine there was a very interesting article under The Voice of the Industry heading about Carbon Reduction Commitments for UK companies. This subject is of particular importance to the building trade who are expected to contribute to the UK Government’s commitment to reduce it’s carbon emissions by 80% by 2050 by building energy efficient homes. The UK is also committed to increasing the use of renewable energy from 4.5% to 15% by 2020. As well as new buildings, there is also a need to encourage refurbishment of existing housing to improve energy efficiency. The Energy Bill for 2010/11 is processing through the House of Commons at the moment with committee sessions expected in June. This bill was first introduced into the House of Lords in December last year. This bill has been designed to provide for a step change in the provision of energy efficiency measures to homes and businesses, and make improvements to our framework to enable and secure, low carbon energy supplies and fair competition in the energy markets. These are huge challenges facing the country and in particular the building industry. It also provides opportunities for the building trade to step up to the mark and encourage those considering refurbishing their homes to go that bit further and add in energy saving measures at the same time. Since we refurbish our homes on average only every 20-30 years, to reach the Government targets it is important to seize every opportunity to improve energy efficiency.
The Building Construction Association and the Department of Energy and Climate Change have some helpful advice on this subject.

Massive Wide-Mouth Jaws! New QuattroGripp Waterpump Pliers From NWS
NWS, the German specialist plier manufacturer has just launched a new generation of waterpump pliers – currently available in the UK exclusively from national distributor, Tools of the Trade Limited.
Most noticeable feature of the new NWS QuattroGripp waterpump plier is the exceptionally wide mouth of the dual toothed serrated jaws that maintain a ferocious grip on the work piece. A single-handed push-button ratchet adjustment ensures the jaws open and close quickly and easily – while locking securely in place.
Strong, but compact and narrow, these NWS pliers are designed to function effectively in the smallest of spaces - and yet the configuration of the handles is such that there is no risk of the user’s fingers being trapped. The powerful QuattroGripp pliers are built to last – being manufactured from top quality chrome-vanadium steel, drop forged and oil hardened, while the vinyl- coated handles are ergonomically designed for a comfortable non-slip grip. Three lengths are available: 250mm, 320mm and 400mm, all with impressive jaw capacities, marking a new generation of waterpump pliers. Also new from NWS for Spring 2011 is an S-Pipe wrench with an improved jaw shape and profile featuring precision self-gripping teeth that ensure a firm grip is constantly maintained on the work piece - regardless of whether it is a very small or a large pipe.
Like the NWS QuattroGripp waterpump pliers, the new S-Pipe wrench has a non-slip quick jaw opening and closing push-button mechanism, as well as long, strong slim-line handles for working in confined spaces – without trapping the user’s fingers. Similarly, durability and build quality are hallmarks of both of these new tools from NWS.
