Power Tool Innovations

The definition of the word ‘innovation’ in the English dictionary is introducing new things or new methods. A new product only deserves to be called an innovation when it provides an improved or new benefit for the customer.

In the power tool industry companies continually strive to come up with new ideas to solve problems and improve on their existing products. Companies should also design, manufacture and distribute products and services in such a way that both protects the environment and provides customers with the benefits of sustainable products as well as strictly adhering to all safety standards. Here at ToolBUSINESS+HIRE Magazine we provide the facility for companies to show off their innovative products, giving the retailer and ultimately the customer all the information they need to make decisions about the best tool for the job. Information and education is key to successfully marketing power tool innovations.

30,000 Holes.

One Innovative Drill Bit. When it comes to ultra-durable drill bits capable of making light work of any tile type, leading distributor of fixings and fastenings, ForgeFix, has long extolled TileMax as one of the toughest on the market. But now it seems that one of these innovative bits has undergone the ultimate endurance test as part of a building project at Birmingham University.

Lending support to ForgeFix’s claims about the strength and performance of TileMax, the bit has been used alongside a Makita HP2010N to drill over 30,000 holes into sandstone in the space of just three short months. With the help of a robotic arm and computer controls, the holes were drilled at varying angles and depths into 7000 different sized sandstone cladding panels. Speaking of the achievement, Mike Smith, Sales and Marketing Director at ForgeFix said: “TileMax bits have a tip made from tungsten carbide – one of the hardest materials known to man. This allows them to drill through most tile types including ceramic, porcelain, natural stone and granite.” He continues: “We’re delighted with the use of TileMax at Birmingham

University, where it’s been used to drill more holes in twelve weeks than the average tradesmen would in a lifetime. It’s proof that when it comes to specialist tile drill bits, they don’t come tougher or more durable than TileMax.”

Cordless FEIN Dry Wall Screw Guns For One-Off And Repeated Screw Fittings

Long-standing company FEIN has added a mobile variant to its screw gun range in the form of the new battery-powered FEIN dry wall screw gun. The lightweight screw gun with high-quality lithium-ion batteries has a long battery life and is very powerful. Up to 1,800 screw fittings can be performed with one battery charge. The gun’s ergonomic design and low weight also allow it to be used overhead or in niches. An improved autofeed (which can be fitted without any tools) is added to the tool for repeated screw fittings.

Operated at high speed, these guns are perfect for the special requirements of professional users. FEIN dry wall screw guns are designed for continuous use and are tested before delivery in the FEIN test lab. In the dust lab, the battery- powered FEIN dry wall gun performs more than one million screw fittings without any maintenance. Depending on the application, this corresponds to an area of more than 60,000 square metres. The screw gun is fitted with a zero- maintenance, brushless EC motor and is very efficient. An idling speed of 4,000 rpm ensures rapid progress of work. Thanks to its precise cut-off function, the silent clutch invented by FEIN prevents undesirable noise and vibrations. The battery-powered FEIN dry wall screw gun is equipped with 14.4 V lithium-ion batteries. Up to 1,800 screw fittings can be performed with one battery charge. Depending on panel size and application, this corresponds to an area of more than 100 square metres. The quick charger requires a maximum of 25 minutes for one charge process and therefore enables uninterrupted working. Intelligent monitoring electronics integrated in the charger continually check the function of the individual battery cells and protect from overload, overheating and total discharge. The high-quality battery cells have a very long service life and can be charged up to 2,000 times.
