Most men I know place their own health care near the bottom of their priorities, and that’s a shame. The good news, though, is that many women in our lives are quite proactive about health and wellness for themselves and for their entire families. We should embrace their helpful suggestions along the path toward good health.

An important consideration is the power of preven- tive medicine. Many physicians observe that it’s much easier to extend and enhance wellness before illness arrives. Everyone should focus more attention on key areas such as eating organic, reducing stress, getting regular exercise, sleeping well, eliminating harmful
chemicals from our lives, and connecting with our spiritual side.
The number of things we can do each day to maintain our health is almost limitless.

For me, the simple activity of walking the dog works wonders. My significant other and I take Bodhi, our German Shepherd, out just about every evening after dinner. We get to spend some quality time together and reconnect without interruption. On days when I can’t go running, it ensures I have at least some type of daily physical activity. I also find I am less likely to over-indulge during dinner knowing that we’re headed out soon. And, even though we take es- sentially the same path each time, watching the dog’s non-stop excitement and wonderment along the route makes me chuckle. This provides some much- needed inspiration to view the world from different perspectives and not to take life too seriously.
In support of addressing a guy’s well-being, a number of leading Valley authori- ties on natural health and wellness present important topics related to men’s wellness in this issue. For our female readers, thanks in advance for passing this information along to the special men in your life (some of us need the nudge!).
PROUDLY PRINTED ON RECYCLED NEWSPRINT The right choice for sustainable living.
At Natural Awakenings, we enthusiastically print our magazines every month using recycled newsprint because it is the most environmentally friendly option available. The lighter weighted paper uses fewer natural resources. It also requires fewer processes when the paper is created, and it’s easier to break down the paper during recycling.
Magazines that choose heavier weighted paper consume more natural resources. Their glossy appearance and special varnishes require additional, complex manufacturing steps both when the paper is being produced, as well as when it’s being recycled.
Does using recycled newsprint instead of glossy paper cost us some advertisers? Sometimes it does. But in the long run, we believe it’s the right thing to do for our world, and frankly, it embodies who we are as a magazine.
For readers who prefer to go paperless, we make every issue in a digital edition available on our website or you can sign up to receive it for free in your email inbox each month.
