any readers already under- stand that pharmaceuticals are not ideal for our well- being due to the long-term impact on our health as well as side effects. But when it comes to sexual perfor- mance, the loss of confidence and effect on one’s happiness may lead a person to find a quick fix. Many people don’t realize that there are other options which don’t have side effects, are healthy, and are effective. Maca root is an herb from Peru that could be consid-

M Blue Pill

Nature’s little

ered by some as nature’s “little blue pill,” used for erectile problems, impotence and raising testosterone levels. But this herb does not work like any pharmaceutical drug. Maca is a natural hormone balancer for both men

and women. Instead of giving the body specific hormones, Maca regulates them. So whether you need more or less of a particular hormone, it has been shown to balance your levels. Maca has amino acids, vitamins, minerals (including calcium), fatty acids, saponins, and tannins. Maca works on your overall body systems which have been known to improve mental acuity, physical vitality, endurance, and stamina. And yes, it has been known to enhance sexual de- sire and performance in both men and women. Maca root is a very nutritious plant and fuels the body very well. So whether you have erectile problems or just want more energy naturally, maca is a great nutritional supple- ment to try. One heaping tablespoon of the powdered herb daily is likely to show results within a month (noted for erectile issues). Maca root comes as a powder or in capsule form from most herbalists, herb shops and health stores. Make sure your source for maca is grown organi- cally without pesticides and is pure without fillers. Eight ounces by weight may run around $15. It is considered a food so you can mix 1 tablespoon into juice, water, smoothie or sprinkle on yogurt or oatmeal. Be sure to talk to your doctor or health care professional when taking any new supplements or herbal medicine.

magine yourself walking through a Tori Gate into your space to practice yoga. As you come upon your mat, you look out at blue skies, green grass, majestic trees and a serene pond. Resting in a quiet corner of the room, your eyes are drawn to the brass and golden luster of the Yoga Gong, silent for the moment preparing to bring vibrational life to the air. As you begin your practice, the teacher invites

you to rise into Mountain Pose, drawing power from the core of your existence and feeling the flow of that power down through your legs into and through your feet, grounding down into the earth below. Now, close your eyes and as you visualize yourself grounding, you are filled with a resounding wave of vibration as the Gong is struck and the Muladhara (root chakra) receives notification that energy vibration is about to rise. As you stand tall, like the mountain, more waves of vibration serve notice to the chakras all the way up to the silence of the supreme space of the Thousand Petal Lotus (crown chakra). This is the beginning of Hatha-Gong. Hatha-Gong is a new discipline of yoga which has resulted from many hours of research matching specific Gong vibrations with the elements of various Hatha Yoga poses. Creator of Hatha-Gong, Duane Armitage is a Gong Master and is a Certified Yoga Teacher. He has combined the vibrational power of the Gong with the internal energy of the Hatha yoga practice using specific combinations of Gong strikes to establish foundational integrity, allowing the practitioner to create each asana (yoga pose) and expand the student’s inner awareness. The Spirit of Yoga center is honored to debut the

inspirational and uplifting practice of Hatha-Gong with three regularly scheduled classes a week and one class a month on Sundays featuring this new discipline, as well as other regularly scheduled yoga classes.
