GRAND AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND
Learn about mysterious Uluru (Ayers Rock) in Australia’s desert Outback, and take a Sydney Harbour Cruise
All the colors in the palette...
“Feast your eyes” is more than an expression when talking about Australia and New Zealand; it could easily be a pastime here, for there may be nowhere on Earth as colorful – naturally, culturally and metaphorically – as these South Pacific neighbors. Witness the wondrous, red rock monolith of Uluru (Ayers Rock), rising out of the sparse green vegetation covering the ochre floor of the desert Outback (often called the country’s “Red Centre,” by the way)... seven or eight varying shades of blue visible in the Great Barrier Reef... a kaleidoscope of colors blooming in the formal English gardens of Christchurch... the amber glow of a Sydney Harbour sunrise... muted earth tones of koalas and kangaroos in a wildlife park... grayscale hues of the bubbling mudpots of Rotorua... the purple wisp bathing the linens of a table setting at a Queensland beach resort at sunset. The colors of the rainbow surround... in traditional crafts and clothing, from the bright colors of the Maori in New Zealand to the primary colors decorating the didgeridoos played by Aboriginals. And the spectacular scenery of Milford Sound has a palette all its own: vivid orange and golds of wildflowers dotting a stretch of shore along a fiord, the impossibly blue sky above, and deep green forests blanketing the mountains beyond, ringed by billowing pure white clouds...
