Passports are required for entry in all Latin American countries; visas are also required in Brazil and Bolivia. Sampling regional cuisine is part of the magic of traveling in Latin America: Argentina is well known for its beef; in Chile, empañadas and wine are special treats; Brazilian meals often feature rice and beans; fresh seafood is a delight in Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador and the Galápagos. While drinking water is generally safe at all our hotels, bottled water will be available on motor coaches and boats. Note: you won’t be allowed to bring food into any Latin American country.
HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS
These active journeys may include traveling at high elevations, walking on uneven terrain in jungles, rainforests, and island shores, and cruising to remote destinations using tenders or small Zodiacs for shore landings. Temperatures are often hot and humid and many hotels featured on our itineraries do not have elevators. All persons taking these journeys must be in good health; walkers, wheelchairs and motorized scooters cannot be accommodated on these journeys. Please consult your physician for required or suggested inoculations for the countries visited on your journey.

TRAVELING TO AUSTRALIA & NEW ZEALAND Australia’s seasons are the opposite to those of the Northern
Hemisphere. Spring is from September – November; summer extends from December – February; fall is from March – May; and winter runs from June – August. The climate is pleasant without extremes in temperatures. With six different states and three different time zones within Australia, including daylight saving during the summer months, acclimating to the time changes can be challenging. For example, the time in Sydney is 15 hours ahead of New York time. We recommend that you arrive a day before your journey starts to reduce the effects of jet lag and to start your journey relaxed and refreshed.
112 CLOTHING TIPS
Australia is very casual, with little need for dressy clothing or coats; a light jacket is perfect for occasional cool nights – even in winter. Bring shorts, bathing suits, comfortable walking shoes and sandals for the beach; hats, sunscreen and bug repellent are “musts” for the Outback. Be prepared for rain on the coast.
CULTURAL TREATS
While food is predominantly western in quality and style, there are numerous specialty dishes and foods in Australia. The ‘barbie’ (barbecue) is an icon of Australian cuisine and culture, featuring a variety of grilled foods, from shrimp, barramundi and lobster to steaks, lamb, crocodile, kangaroo and even emu.
