You will encounter a mix of ceremonial practices and customs in Asia. Local modes of on-tour transportation may include cable cars, rickshaws, cyclos, pedi-cabs, and traditional boats for authentic cultural experiences. Dress is conservative, keeping the body well-covered at all times. Be prepared to remove your shoes when visiting temples, mosques and private homes.

WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN VISITING THE SITES Expect to see a variety of sights on local streets, from man-powered cyclos and rickshaws to cows or even an elephant. Landmark sites are always popular, making it challenging to maneuver ancient paths and steps; we have researched the best times to tour the sites, yet we cannot guarantee crowd-free visits.

DINING TO DELIGHT EVERY PALATE

Asia is renowned for its flavorful, often spicy cuisine, which sometimes does not agree with sensitive stomachs. That’s why we make sure different international dining options and bottled water are available to you wherever we travel.

HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS

Travelers should be in good physical health as these journeys require a fair amount of walking, often on uneven terrain in hot weather. Roads can be bumpy; curbs are often high and without ramps; stairs can be steep – handrails are not always available and gangplanks are sometimes not available while boarding Asian boats. Regrettably, travelers with special needs cannot be accommodated on these journeys.

CLIMATES OF AFRICA & THE MIDDLE EAST

Africa – A year-round destination, the climate of southern Africa is generally uniform, the result of its location in the tropical zone and cool ocean currents.

Middle East – Israel lies in both a tropical and a temperate region, with northern and coastal areas having hot, dry summers and cool, rainy winters. Egypt and Jordan are characterized by a dry climate with two seasons, a hot season from May to October and a cool season from November to April. Temperatures reflect average F˚ daytime temperatures.

SPECIAL HEALTH CONSIDERATIONS You should be in good physical condition; Tauck’s African adventures require a fair amount of walking, often in hot weather, at high altitudes, or across difficult terrain. Sites in Egypt, Turkey, Israel and Jordan are located in remote desert areas; access can be difficult, with bumpy roads, steep steps, irregular surfaces and narrow passages. Guests requiring wheelchairs, walkers or canes cannot be accommodated at most sites.
