Great careers start here …
Claire Riley BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy
I live in Carlisle and I work for Adult Social Care as a research and information assistant. I was interested in working more directly with service users and the job of an occupational therapist (OT) appealed to me. There was an opportunity through work to do the OT degree part-time as a secondment and I decided to take the opportunity.
I chose to study at the university because it was close to where I live. I wanted to be an OT and the part-time route fitted in with work and family life.
I enjoy the practical aspects of the course such as the placements which give you an insight into the role of an OT.

The tutors are helpful and are always available if you have any problems or if you need to discuss anything with them.
If someone is interested in becoming an OT then the course gives them the theoretical background and the practical opportunities to enable them to do this. There are also small class sizes. I would like to complete my degree and then work as an OT. At present I’m not sure of which area of OT that will be in.
