Our campuses and gateway sites Lancaster
Carlisle Carlisle is the historic capital city of Cumbria and is the home to two campuses—Fusehill Street and Brampton Road—meaning that the city has a strong student community. Our students tell us that they like Carlisle because the student population is large and vibrant.
It’s an easy city to get to as it’s well served by the M6 motorway and rail. Carlisle is a lively compact place with its long history on show in the historic quarter around the castle and cathedral. Good shopping and social scenes complete the picture. It’s also very close to the Lake District National Park and Scotland. Fusehill Street campus is a mix of red-brick Victorian and modern architecture. It is a ten-minute walk from the city centre and is the base for a wide variety of courses. The Learning Gateway building at Fusehill Street is a great facility with its mix of lecture rooms, work and chill-out areas allowing you to make the best use of your study time on your own or with others. There is also a sports centre and modern accommodation on campus.
Brampton Road is home to our arts courses, with the site looking out across the city and River Eden. It’s a fifteen-minute walk into town and is easy to get to by road or rail. The site has been re-developed over the years to provide excellent teaching and learning facilities. It really is the place for aspirant artists with the city and nearby countryside providing sources of inspiration. You will have your own studio space on campus so we treat you like an artist from day one.
The historic city of Lancaster has a vibrant arts and social scene close to beautiful countryside. It is a big university town so there is always lots going on. Our campus is a mix of old and new buildings (including the £9m Gateway building which opened in 2009) set in its own parkland, with spectacular views across the city, Morecambe Bay and the Lakeland fells. The city has great rail and road links so Liverpool, Manchester, the North West and further afield are very accessible.
Lancaster is a base for a wide range of courses. In particular, our students tell us it’s a great place to be with like-minded people studying in the health and education fields. They also say they like the great facilities include the £9m Gateway development as well as the excellent sporting facilities and accommodation on site.
Penrith
Newton Rigg, Penrith is home to the National School of Forestry and Centre for Wildlife Conservation as well as outdoor and science courses. Our students like the way their courses and the immediate local environment complement one another. With stunning gardens, arboretum forest and farmland it has great facilities, with a sports centre (with brand new climbing wall) and modern library. Much research into biomass and other forms of woodland also take place at the campus. Penrith is on the M6 motorway and West Coast rail line.
