approximately 10 years ago, when Building Information Modeling (BIM) was in its infancy, Cannistraro invested in the technology needed to embrace BIM-enabled prefabrication. With hundreds of BIM projects under its belt, Cannistraro is “Building with Intelligence” by utilizing the full dimension of BIM to deliver higher quality, more efficient projects. Cannistraro also committed to lean construction practices that improve building efficiencies such as lean prefabrication and Last Planner Scheduling. In recent years, the company has begun providing energy benchmarking services and building performance analyses as part of its HVAC Facilities Services. In recognition of the company’s efforts, Cannistraro was awarded the prestigious MSCA GreenSTAR Designation in 2011; and is one of only 38 GreenSTAR contractors nationwide. One of the company’s most


successful projects in recent years has been the Genzyme Biologics Support Center. Cannistraro installed the HVAC and plumbing infrastructure for this laboratory/office facility in the Massachusetts suburb of Framingham. Through the company’s lean approach, BIM expertise and off-site prefabrication facility, Cannistraro was able to prefabricate custom-built utility racks with as many as 12 lines of piping. Wheels were welded directly to each rack, and truckloads of the ready-to-install assemblies were delivered just-in-time for rigging. On the Genzyme project, BIM and prefabrication helped Cannistraro shave three months off of the construction schedule. l
