announces during his keynote speech that imec has started the installation of ASML’s pre-production Extreme UltraViolet Lithography (EUVL) scanner, the NXE:3100, in its Leuven facility. The installation of the NXE:3100, featuring a considerably higher source power and optimized optics, underscores imec’s ambition to bring EUVL to production level.

With the installation of ASML’s NXE:3100, imec’s EUVL research program moves to the preproduction stage, shifting the focus from mainly an infrastructure study to include now also a manufacturability study. The NXE:3100 at imec uses a DPP (Discharge Produ- ced Plasma) EUV light source from Extreme Techno- logies (Ushio). At comparable process conditions the NXE:3100 has recently demonstrated a throughput performance increase of a factor of 20 over the EUV Alpha Demo Tool at imec. This increase is based on increased power, higher transmission and dual stages.

developing new areas of application for carbon nanotubes (CNT). The Company concluded a patent license agreement for the use of these materials with U.S. based company Hyperion Catalysis Interna- tional, Inc. The agreement will help to solidify the leading positions of both companies in research and development as well as production technology for high-quality CNT-based products. Financial terms were not disclosed. Based in Cambridge, Massachu- setts, USA, Hyperion has been active in the field of carbon nanotubes since 1983 and currently holds a comprehensive portfolio of patents and patent applications. The flagship FIBRIL™ technology is a conductive, multi-walled CNT based on the pionee- ring work in this field by Dr. Howard G. Tennent.
Furthermore, BMS has developed a very versatile technology for the use of fillers in reactive polyure- thane (PU) blends. With the Solid Injection by Air Stream (SIA) method, the solids are transported in a gas stream and only injected into the mixing cham- ber during the blending phase. This method opens up entirely new possibilities for the use of composite materials, regardless of whether they are hard or soft, or if the polyurethane is a solid or a foam. http://
