What’s New Tiny encoder saves PCB space
Avago Technologies has claimed the industry's smallest three-channel reflective encoder. The AEDR-850x encoders feature built-in interpolation for high-resolutionmeasurement,which is suitable for awide range of applications including closed-loop steppermotors, miniaturemotors, printers, copiers, card readers, and insulin pumps.
The Avago AEDR-850x reflective encoders
integrate an LED light source, photodetecting and interpolator circuitry in a single packagewith a 3.95 x 3.40-mmfootprint.With high resolution encoding of 304 lines per inch (12 lines permm), the highly-integratedmodules enable a newlevel
RETEX 19-inch racks available inNA
METCASE, themetal enclosures division of OKW Enclosures Inc., has signed an agreementwith RETEX, based in Barcelona, Spain, tomarket and sell its flat- pack 19-inch racks and cabinets in North America.
The RETEX LOGIC² 19-inch flat-pack rack systemis designed for a variety of applications including cabling and networking installations, IT and data center applications, broadcasting, entertainment and audio-visualmarkets as well as industrial computing and electronics.
Supplied complete with all parts in a single
carton, the rack systemconsists of an extruded aluminumframe and can be assembled on-site in less than fiveminutes. These lightweight cabinets can accommodate static loads up to 2200 lbs (1000 kg), and dynamic loads up to 660 lbs (300 kg).
Standard configurations include 600-mmand
800-mmwide cabinets in six different heights from 18U to 47U. Three standard depths are offered: 600 mm, 800mmand 1000mm. All racks are supplied with adjustable 19-inch panelmounts. The standard finish is graphite gray epoxy paint. A variety of options and accessories are available.
All LOGIC² cabinets aremanufactured from100-percent recyclablematerials.

ofminiaturization for applicationswhere size and space are primary concerns, said Avago.
The AEDR-850x encoders offer interpolation of
up to 4X and enable various resolution designs by changing the codewheel size. The optical-based modules are significantly less susceptible to EMI comparedwith Hall Effect devices, according to Avago. With an absolute operating temperature range of -20 deg C to 85 C, the rugged encoders are suitable for commercial and industrial operation environments.

Tiny regulators deliver high power density
Texas Instruments Inc. (TI) has claimed the industry's smallest, most efficient step-down regulatorswith integrated FETs to support up to 25 A for telecommunications, networking and other applications. The TPS56221 and TPS56121 are the first switchers to integrate TI's NexFET technology, providing increased thermal performance, protection, efficiency and reliability.
The 25-A, 14-V, TPS56221 synchronous SWIFT
switcher with integrated NexFETMOSFETs achieves a power density greater than 200 W/in3 with greater than 90 percent efficiency at high loads froma 12-V input to a 1.3-V output, delivering up to 25 A of continuous output current at 500-kHz switching frequency.
The TPS56221 and TPS56121 are available in
a thermally enhanced 5 x 6-mm QFN package, and achieve a total solution size of 315 mm2, which TI says is 30 percent smaller than other discrete solutions.

continuous-conduction mode PFC techniques; all signals are converted to the digital domain, allowing all parameters to be adjusted and reported over a PMBus compliant interface. This allows designers to optimize system harmonic performance, maximize efficiency across the load range
and reduce time to market, said ADI. The digital PFC controller provides typical
powermetering accuracy of +/-3 percent at full load current with further improvements to +/-1 percent with customer calibration.
The device also offers enhanced transient
response through non-linear control algorithms, programmable inrush control to reduce start-up over-stress, real-time programming tomaximize efficiency and extensive fault detection and reporting for improved reliability.
