What’s New ST shrinks power package

STMicroelectronics has introduced a new package that will allow for further miniaturization of control modules thatmustmeet safety specifications such as IEC 60370 and IEC 60335. ST says the SMBflat package, whichmeasures 3.95 x 4.6 x 1.1mm, is 40 percent thinner and takes up half the printed-circuit-

board (PCB) space of the closest rival, the SOT-223. ST is initially using its new three-lead surface-mount package to house

selected products including an AC switch (ACS108-6SUF-TR), SCR (X0202NUF) and three types of triacs (Z0103/07/09MUF series), which are widely used in circuits such as circuit breakers, lamp igniters and valve, motor or pump controls.

The newpackage allows ST's newACS108 1-amp AC switch to achieve the

highest ever current density, which is a key spec for this type of device. In addition, the "creepage" distances of ST's X02 series SCRs and Z01 series triacs will helpmeet the insulation requirements of themajor safety standards for domestic and industrial electrical equipment (IEC 60370 and IEC 60335).

E-Switch debuts ultra- mini tactile switch

E-Switch has introduced its smallest tactile switch. The TL3700 series tact switch measures 3.0 x 2.6 x 0.65mm. Applications include audio/visual equipment, computer peripherals, consumer electronics, handheld devices, medical equipment, and telecommunications.

The tact switch features a 100,000 cycle life expectancy and

two different gramforce options (100 gf and 160 gf). The operating temperature range is -40 deg C to 85 deg C.

Other key specs include: • Contact Rating: 20mA, 15 Vdc • Contact Resistance (InitialMax): 500milliohms • Insulation Resistance: 100Mohmsminimumat 500 Vdc • Dielectric Strength (1min):250 Vac • Travel: 0.15mm • Function: SPST, Off-(On)

Bel Stewart Connector, a division of Bel Fuse Inc., offers the ARJ45 Series of high-speed Category 7amodular jacks with integrated magnetics to support 10GBase-T transmission as defined by IEEE 802.3an-2006. The Category 7a ARJ45 jack is the company's newest twisted-pair connector interface.

The ARJ45 jack provides a connector

solution for the to-be-defined, next-generation IEEE twisted-pair Ethernet standards as the

high frequency requirement of these future standards will likely exceed the limitations of existing RJ45 connectors, said Bel Stewart.

Themechanical interface of the ARJ45

connector seriesmeets the IEC 61076-3-110 standard, and the overall construction facilitates integration with themagnetics required for twisted-pair Ethernet data transmission. The connector's interface also provides the familiarity of an RJ45-style

device in its use and port density, together with the performance benefits of a Category 7a connector system.

The ARJ45 connectors are provided

standard with gold-plated (50-microinch) contacts to ensure high-cycle life and are manufactured of UL94-VO plastics. Durability is rated at 750matching cycles.

Illinois Capacitor has introduced the DC Series of coin cell style supercapacitors that can provide on-boardmemory backup at much longer life spans than batteries. With 0.15 to 8 Farads of capacity, at voltages up to 5.5WVdc, these devices can supply sufficient power to prevent loss of data during a power interruption. This is asmuch as five times the capacitance of some other coin-type supercapacitors or ultracapacitors, said the company.

The DC Series, available in three case

configurations for horizontal, vertical and center-leadmounting, offers numerous

values and lead combinations with case sizes as small as 6.8 x 4.6mm. Key features include very fast charge/discharge cycling, IEC 62391 and RoHS compliance, and low equivalent series resistance (ESR).

DC Series capacitors are ready to board

mount in applications such as smartmeters, HVAC controls, building automation, business phone systems, appliances, instruments and othermicroprocessor- based devices. Because of their high power density, they can help reduce board size and case requirements, said Illinois Capacitor.
