PCB snapshot According to the IPC’s president and CEO, Denny McGuirk: “Both rigid PCB and flexible circuit sales followed normal seasonal patterns in January, with rigid sales decreasing and flex sales rebounding. Orders still lag sales by a small margin. The good news is that sales in both segments are still ahead of the same month last year and the numbers look stable.”

Manufacturer of prototype and small batch printed circuit boards, Eurocircuits, has invested in new plant and equipment, increasing capacity by 50 per cent and allowing the company to offer larger volumes of boards on short deliveries.

Sales andmarketing director, Dirk Stans,

explained: “Demand for PCBs has increased across Europe but for the European electronics industry to continue to grow it must be able to react quickly tomarket demands. Extended deliveries fromthe Far East are no longer an option for fast-moving enterprises. Eurocircuits has always specialised in fast deliveries. Thanks to our investment, we can deliver larger volumes on tighter schedules, for example up to 250 boards on a two day turnaround.”

An on-line calculator allows users to get

prices and deliveries instantly, further shortening time tomarket.

Energy harvesting reaps rewards

batterymarket Under a new distribution agreement, Anglia is to support the full range of Varta Microbattery products, technologies and chemistries in the UK and Ireland with a stock profile held at its UK warehouse. Products range fromstandard alkaline AA batteries to lithiumion (Li-ion) technology, which powers themajority of handheld devices today. According to distributionmanager for the

Energy harvesting helpsmeet sustainability demands in industrial or building complexes

AlphaMicro Components has signed an agreement with energy harvesting provider, EnOcean, which will see it distribute EnOcean’s wireless sensormodules in the UK and Ireland. This technology utilises the existing energy found in industrial or building complexes, such as the heat created by machines, radiators or even the human body.

EnOcean’s wirelessmodules have been

deployed inmore than 100,000 buildings, helping to create energy-efficient, self- powered wireless sensor solutions. Utilising energy harvesting techniques removes the need for a physical power source which also removes the need for on-sitemaintenance.

Marketing director for AlphaMicro

Components,Maxine Hewitt, commented: “Partnering with EnOcean enhances our range of wireless industrial automation solutions. This technology will be vital for meeting sustainability demands in the industrial sector and the built environment.”

UK and Ireland for VartaMicrobattery, Alex Stapleton: “Anglia’s presence in theM2M wirelessmarket will take Varta batteries to a new customer base.We have confidence in its technical experience and its consultative approach in helping customers select the right battery products.

“Wewent through a detailed process prior

to Anglia's appointment to ensure itwas not only qualified to sell and support our products froma technical perspective, but also that it understood the legislative and health and safety framework surrounding batteries.”

Marketing director – semiconductors at

Anglia, John Bowman, explained: “Anglia will be supplying customers with Varta batteries fromits UK warehouse and will therefore be the ‘producer’ as defined by UK batteries directive legislation. UK customers who source all of their battery requirements from Anglia are therefore relieved of the burden of compliance with the batteries directive.”
