One example is a project for the Bangladeshi Navy with two ships, HMS Leeds and sister ship HMS Dumbarton Castle, undergoing extensive regeneration work during 2010. Te multi-million pound contract included overhauling the vessels’ main engines, gearboxes, shaſts and motors and installing new diesel generators and deck cranes. Te crew accommodation onboard was also upgraded and both vessels were fitted with flight decks capable of supporting Sea King helicopters. Te past year has seen some demanding
and unusual projects that have demonstrated the company’s capabilities in different fields. For example its Tees yard recently completed a makeover of the Christian Raddich, a past winner of the Tall Ships Race. Te full-rigged, three mast ship with a steel hull was built in Norway in the 1930s and its owners, the Christian Raddich Foundation, needed a company with specialist skills to ensure the restoration work was in keeping with her era. and the work carried out over a six week stay included riveting rather than welding. Mr Bell suggests: “Carrying out the project has proven that we are more than capable, as we are reiterating to many potential clients, of undertaking projects requiring a diverse range of skills.”
One of the key target markets for the
