is fitted with a number of automatic 6.64.07 DN150 and DN200 filters, as well as numerous simplex and duplex manual filter systems, to provide filtration protection for the main engine lube oil diesel generators. In order to make sure that the filters are maintained

in optimum condition, Bollfilter staff visited the vessel in Trieste to take a register of the filters onboard and prepared a recommended onboard spares inventory, while tailor-made O&M manuals were also given to the vessel. In addition to a regular annual service visit, when the ship is based in Southampton, the company is providing complimentary training to onboard staff in servicing and maintaining the filter systems.

Ancillary equipment Laser technology

speeds up process UK-based Aveva has launched a new product called IntelliLaser which the company claims will have significant advantages for FPSO and other offshore conversion projects. Working together with Z&F UK, a leading laser scanning provider, Aveva has developed a means of integrating laser-scanned data, creating intelligent ‘hot spots’ that automatically link piping and equipment to associated plant information, through the Aveva Net system. According to Aveva, rather than send personnel to

measure all the details within a ship, IntelliLaser allows those involved with FPSO and other offshore conversion projects to easily digitise the ship and align this with a 3D model. Te company believes this will save time and money for FPSO conversions. It points out that photo-realistic laser scans provide a highly accurate view of the ship, including poorly lit areas, and enable users to more easily visualise, navigate and understand the physical position of items within the vessel. Aveva has now also introduced a new LaserModel

Interface to help the offshore conversion sector take advantage of such benefits. According to the company, by using the Laser Model Interface site survey times can be reduced by half while the need for intermediate remodelling can be eliminated. As a result of high definition surveying it is claimed that FPSO conversion design time could be reduced overall by up to 10%.

Propulsion Berg thrusters

ordered Nostag Gmbh, a consortium of three German companies, has contracted Berg Propulsion to equip its cable layer, Nostag 10, with two azimuthing thrusters. Given the increasing number of wind park projects in the North Sea, Nostag has decided that the vessel should be be converted to be self-propelled, in order to meet the requirement for greater manoeuvrability when carrying out such tasks. Berg is to supply two BAT 316 FP type

azimuthing thrusters, one at the bow, the other on the stern, together with a fixed pitch propeller, electric motor and frequency converter to regulate propeller speed. This package of equipment will be installed on Nostag 10 by Berg engineers during a drydocking at a German shipyard in the early part of this year, with redelivery to the operator expected to take place in June 2011.

Ancillary equipment New flange tool

from Climax Climax Portable Machine Tools has recently released a new line of heavy-duty portable flange facers designed to give customers the option of adapting a machine for single-point machining only, for milling only, or for both milling and single-point machining. The new flange facers have several new features including a patented safety device that lets operators remotely adjust the feed rate, infinitely variable feed rates from 0.0508 to 0.889 mm/rev, and a tool head that can rotate 360degs to machine angular surfaces. Because the new line of flange facers easily switch

between facing and milling operations, machinists using the tools effectively get two machines in one, thus saving time and money, says Climax. Te new configuration options are intended to give machinists greater flexibility in how they approach on-site machining projects.
