Regions
MID-ATLANTIC
The USA Triathlon Mid-Atlantic Region sponsored and partnered with two expos in our region this spring. The region hosted booths and talked to athletes about the great programs planned for 2011.

Over 200 national and local vendors, brands, events and endurance sports personalities met at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Pa., at the Endurance Sports Expo organized by Liberty Sports Magazine and High Road Cycles. The expo has more than doubled in size since the 2010 event.

The region also hosted the Multisport World Conference and Expo, a free day dedicated to kicking off the new season. Multisport World, a production of Sun Multisport Events, came to North Bethesda, Md., in late March.

We wish to welcome our new RADC, coach Ron Sciepko (rsciepko@usat-ma.org), of North Carolina, who is ready to implement great ideas and programs, including the Talent ID Junior Tri Series. On the youth front, the region is about to launch a youth initiative in concert with Swim for Smiles in North Carolina. With many events, series, youth initiatives and more, the region is excited about the rest of the year.

We also wish to extend out fittest congratulations to all regional members who made the podium in the 2010 USAT National Championships, ITU World Championships and Ironman World Championship races. We continue a long tradition of medalists at these key events.

The Mid-Atlantic Region hosted two expos this spring — the Endurance Sports Expo and the Multisport World Conference.

NORTHEAST
This is an exciting season for the Northeast Region. For the next two years, we will host both the USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship in Burlington, Vt., and the USAT Elite National Championship in Buffalo, N.Y.

In addition to having the pinnacle of age group competition within easy travel, we will have the honor of being there as our world-class athletes get one step closer to their goals of Olympic gold. Add to this that triathlon is now a Paralympic sport and the Accenture USA Paratriathlon National Championship at the New York City Triathlon becomes a key springboard for our paratriathletes with Olympic dreams.

Regional Age Group Championships this year are again at the Pat Griskus Olympic Tri in Middlebury, Conn., on June 18. The regional Special Qualifier is Lake Dunmore Triathlon in Banbury, Vt., on Aug. 7, just in time for last-minute qualifying for Age Group Nationals in Burlington, Vt., on Aug. 20.

This year’s Club Championship Series includes a number of new races in the schedule. We expect it to be an exciting year for club competition.
