PARATRIATHLON
ATHLETES OF THE YEAR PRESENTED BY ACCENTURE


USA Triathlon named world champions Matt Perkins and Melissa Stockwell the 2010 USA Paratriathlon Athletes of the Year, presented by Accenture. This honor is awarded annually by USA Triathlon’s Athlete of the Year Committee.


Perkins was victorious in the TRI-2 category at the 2010 ITU Paratriathlon World Championship in Budapest for his fifth world title. Stockwell was the top women’s TRI-2 finisher at the 2010 ITU Paratriathlon World Championship to claim her first world title.


“Our two USA Paratriathletes of the Year, both above the knee amputees, had incredible seasons in 2010,” said Jon Beeson, chair of the USA Triathlon Paratriathlon Committee.


 


MEN’S PARATRIATHLETE OF THE YEAR
MATT PERKINS
(Boise, Idaho)
2010 Highlights: Won TRI-2 category at 2010 ITU Paratriathlon World Championship, TRI-2 runner-up at 2010 Accenture USA Paratriathlon National Championship “I have been really taken back by the success I have had in triathlon, it has been very unexpected. To be considered one of the top disabled triathletes is really quite stunning to me, considering the respect I have for many of the athletes I race with.”

WOMEN’S PARATRIATHLETE OF THE YEAR
MELISSA STOCKWELL
(Oak Park, Ill.)
2010 Highlights: Won TRI-2 category at 2010 ITU Paratriathlon World Championship, TRI-2 runner-up at 2010 Accenture USA Paratriathlon National Championship “I am honored to be named the 2010 Paratriathlete of the Year against so many other incredible athletes. Thanks to the Challenged Athletes Foundation for their support and all those that inspired me along the way.”

2010 Highlights: Won gold in the TRI-2 category at ITU Duathlon World Championship and USAT Duathlon National Championship “I’m excited and honored to have won this award. I’d like to thank the Achilles Track Club in New York for getting me involved in triathlon, and A Step Ahead for providing me with fantastic prosthetics to help me compete to the best of my abilities.”
