the connected world at ibc 2011 the connected world supplement The IPTV Zone
The demand for IPTV has shown explosive growth over the last 12 months. Recent research by MRG Inc predicts that the number of IPTV subscribers worldwide will continue to grow at 25% per year to reach 102 million by 2014, creating a $46 billion marketplace for services alone. Europe is predicted to continue to dominate the global market accounting for 45% of subscribers in 2014. Now in its fifth year, the IPTV Zone has been expanded in 2011 to showcase advances in connected consumer devices and the key technologies emerging in IPTV to demonstrate the enormous potential that exists in this sector.
The Connected Home
Homes, particularly those in Western Europe, are enjoying the mass availability of high bandwidth TV network infrastructures - which now encompasses satellite and cable as well as the relatively new DSL, fibre and 3G/wireless networks - that are capable of supporting the delivery of enhanced and enriched TV content. The new model for video
distribution around the home actually is its own driver for growth: more people using more platforms in more places will likely equal more opportunity. Surveys indicate that digital media consumption across the home will continue at a rapid pace, and this connectivity will be a key feature of the Connected World at IBC2011
The Connected World Awards
In the Connected World of ubiquitous fixed and wireless broadband networks the concept of ‘content everywhere’ is a reality. The ability to consume content on any device, anywhere is creating many new and exciting opportunities: Broadcasters are reaching out to audiences beyond their traditional linear schedules; Publishers are repositioning long-established newspapers and magazines as rich multimedia online offerings; and Enterprises, governments, NGOs and even individuals are successfully creating and communicating directly with their own communities of interest.
In association with IBC, the Connected World Awards celebrate
the creativity of broadcasters, independent producers, technology and consumer electronics companies pioneering this business of content everywhere. Presented at a prestigious black-tie gala dinner at the Hotel Okura Amsterdam on Monday 12 September, the Connected World Awards provide a showcase for the connected content, concepts and devices that are creating new opportunities for the skills and technologies traditionally represented at IBC.
The Connected World Awards celebrate the very best in the business of ‘content everywhere’. Award categories recognise: the new content offerings that are being delivered by broadband; innovative use of the web and social media to build new audiences or enhance the programme experience by allowing viewers to interact with the production; and the new devices that present the public with new engaging or immersive viewing options.
