development, and ultimately one hopes their presentation and appearance,” says Jon Mills, Marketing Manager for La Beeby.
“Therefore, your choice of uniform can say much about your business, your team and even provide an insight into the quality of services that will be on offer. Clean, stylish and smartly appointed, suggests a professional, caring and thoughtful treatment portfolio awaits,” he adds.
How do I look?
Many salons and Spas these days make sure that all members of staff are in matching uniform in order to create a corporate identity and a particular image for their Spa or salon. If managers choose a durable uniform, it should last for years, but there will come a time when you might want to change the look of the business, your branding, or just fancy a change.
“In developing the team’s look, it’s important to consider the treatment portfolio and work environment,” says Jon. “For example the growth of the medical aesthetics market is often best complemented with the clean, medical perception assimilated to a sharp white uniform. And consequently a small dash of ‘brand colour’ maybe all that is required, through a trim, a flash of colour, or the thread of the salon/spa logo, to enforce the brand perception sufficiently.”
Your choice of colour can also make a big impression. A colour that does not complement your salon or your staff well will look miss-matched and out of theme. If you already have a vivid colour running through the salon, choose a uniform colour that won’t clash with the existing colour and will complement it nicely.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that you have to choose your main salon colour as your uniform colour, sometimes opposites attract. For example, if your salon décor screams raspberry pink, you shouldn’t overpower your look with raspberry uniforms, try a colour such as chocolate instead. A uniform in a shade of chocolate will suit the majority of staff, give a chilled out and relaxed feel and complement a raspberry pink décor perfectly. If you’re unsure of what colours go together harmoniously, try searching the Internet for some ideas.

Considering the different skin tones of your staff is also an important aspect of creating the right look for your salon or Spa. If you have fair skinned staff, neutral and pale shades tend to wash them out, so try and choose a uniform shade that complements all skin tones as well as your salon.
Finally, don’t forget to think about what treatments you offer in your salon. Light colours don’t work well with ‘messy’ treatments, although if only a few members of staff perform these treatments their uniform can be protected with an apron. If some of your therapists are nail technicians, you may wish to re-consider having black as your uniform. As classic as a black uniform can look, many nail techs complain that they look far from classy covered in nail dust, which shows up clearly on a black uniform.
Keep it fresh for 2011
Following current fashion trends Diamond Designs have introduced a number of new designs for 2011. In particular the company has recently launched three new dresses, all of which are ideal when paired with leggings. This look is comfortable as well as trendy and allows the therapist to wear something feminine which makes them feel good as well as look professional.
‘Anna’ offers a square neckline with a full-length diamante zip, to add that extra touch of glamour, and comes in black pontella fabric. Meanwhile, the ‘Nicole’ dress is the company’s consistent best- selling ‘Nicole’ tunic in dress format. Finally, the ‘Sophia’ dress is a classic square neck dress available in brown and purple linen-look.
“Listening to our customers is key to our success and we have had demand for a natural fabric. The Spa is a very humid environment and a natural fabric would help the skin to breathe. So for 2011 we have introduced 100% cotton fabric in our new Emma tunic,” adds Diamond Designs’ MD Anne McDonnell.
In addition, the ‘Chloe’ has being restyled to incorporate a longer sleeve. Animal print has proven extremely popular on the 2011 catwalks so the company have improved their leopard print and added it to the ‘Chloe’ Black, ‘Kate’ black and ‘Cara’ Black. Zebra print is also available.
La Beeby’s new range has been created through the input, feedback and support of professionals from all three key industries; from beauty and hair therapists, salon owners, spa managers, dental practitioners and pharmacy managers.
The 2011 collection offers a strong mix of classic styles, new innovative designs and fashionable and striking colours. Twelve classic styles have been retained, and remain ever-popular, eternally stylish and kept up-to-date with modern new colours and fabrics; the elegant crystal buttoned ‘Nadia’ tunic, for example, is now available in powerful navy and silver pinstripe, while the beloved military styled ‘Desiree’ tunic with glass-popper buttons and hidden zip fastening, now comes in a stately grey.
The range also includes eleven chic new designs featuring an array of striking necklines, graceful sleeve lengths and flattering fits, such as the square neckline of the ‘Juliette’, fitted with stitch panel detail and comfortable back zip fastening; the 3
⁄4 length ‘Elle’
with three glass-button detail and capped sleeves, and the refined opulence of the ‘Sophia’ with single diamanté zip detail and sweeping crossover neckline.
All of the La Beeby tunics are complemented with a range of high and low waisted trousers, crops, pedal- pushers and skirts, and can be accessorised with the company’s new range of pleated belts to add colour, or fit.
As always, ‘style’ has to be supported with substance, and La Beeby have continued their investment in the latest fabric developments and micro-yarn technology to offer a new easy-care polyester fabric that is super-soft, lightweight, bi-stretch for movement and yet still durable - a truly modern material to meet the demands of today’s professionals.
And, with European expansion fast on the horizon for La Beeby, this collection also boasts a capsule collection of styles in ‘Justine’, ‘Etienne’ and ‘Clara’, in a new modern blended super soft cotton twill yarn, that offers the feel and textures of fresh cotton with much of the durability and flexibility enjoyed by its polyester counterparts.
