NEWS Würth sales focus pays handsomely
The Würth Group preliminary fi nancial statement for 2010 reports sales of 8.6 billion euros, 14.2% up on 2009. Würth projects an operating result of between 380 and 400 million euros – improving on its target.

ales in Germany represented 45% of the total, growing by 16.9% to 3.9 billion euros. Rest of world growth was 12.1%. The projected operating result of, at least, 380 million euros compares very favourably with 235 million euros in 2009. “This excellent result has not been brought about by a rigorous cost-cutting program,”
emphasised Robert Friedmann, chairman of the Central Managing Board. “On the contrary: Our plan to put all our efforts into sales and to continue to invest in this fi eld has worked out pretty well.” The Group increased its employees by 4,551 during 2010 to a total 62,433. Würth Group will continue its sales-oriented strategy in 2011. In addition to expanding its
sales force, it intends to open further branches in Germany and abroad. “In 2011, we are also planning double-digit sales growth for the Group”, says Mr. Friedmann. The Group’s certifi ed 2010 fi nancial statement will be published on 18th annual press conference.

Stainless AD Expiry Review: China and Taiwan On 20th November the European Commission announced that the anti-dumping
tariffs on stainless steel fasteners imported from Vietnam, Thailand and Indonesia applied in Council Regulation 1890/2005 would expire.
t also announced the opening of an Expiry Review on the anti-dumping measures applied by the same Regulation for stainless steel fasteners from China and Taiwan. This means that the existing tariffs will continue to apply, at least until the Commission completes its Review investigation. This could take up to fi fteen months although the EU Trade website
currently indicates that publication of a defi nitive decision in case R518 can be expected by 18th
November 2011. Hilti reports signifi cant growth
Having posted a decline in 2009 the Hilti Group reports a 7% increase for 2010 measured in local currencies.

Viewed over the entire year, Hilti says it profi ted from “an increasingly stable economic environment as well as signifi cant dynamic in emerging markets”. Hilti’s solar business made a considerable contribution to sales growth, driven by the strong rise in installed capacity in Europe and the USA. At CHF 2.4 billion Europe contributed
61.5% of total group sales, compared with 63.9% in 2009. While European sales grew by 6% in local currencies this disguised “strong country-to-country differences” and Hilti says, “Europe was primarily supported by the

German-speaking areas”. Among others Spain, Portugal and Ireland posted sales declines. Latin America saw the strongest percentage
growth at 21% (local currencies) producing total sales of CHF 115 million. North America contributed CHF 735 million refl ecting a 9% growth in local currencies. Near/Middle East and African sales grew 12% to CHF 173 million. Asia Pacifi c sales grew 8% in local currencies to contribute CHF 490 million increasing its share of group sales by a point to 12.5%. “We emerged from the economic crisis
in very good shape. We also took advantage of the possibilities available in the market last year, thanks mainly to our strength of innovation and by venturing into new areas of business. Our 2010 result is even slightly above our expectations,” stated Hilti chief executive offi cer Bo Risberg. Detailed 2010 annual results will be announced on 11th March 2011.
