Looking for the Exide stand?

Visitors looking for the Exide Technologies IMHX stand had a double surprise this year; first, all the logos and banners on the stand read ‘GNB Industrial Power’ following a global rationalisation of division names by the Exide Group. In the UK, and across Europe, the industrial division will now be known as GNB Industrial Power. Secondly, taking pride of place on the stand was not a forklift truck as would be expected, but a brightly coloured Honda Insight.

This particular Insight is a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) that has been retro- fitted with GNB’s Advanced Lead Carbon AGM batteries – the type often used in walk-behind power pallet trucks. The AGM batteries feature high charge acceptance, partial state of charge operations, and an enhanced cycle life when compared to standard batteries. In 2005, the Exide group was the first supplier of an AGM battery used in a start- stop system for Citroën.

Nigel Darke, Business Director comments “No matter what name we go under, for over 150 years we’ve been looking to improve stored energy technology and find new applications.” www.exide.com

SitexOrbis wins award for excellence in customer service

Uxbridge-based SitexOrbis has won the British Chambers of Commerce’s Chamber Awards 2010 for ‘excellence in customer service’ for London and the south east. The Chambers of Commerce cited the way the company had set out to reinvent itself to improve services.

In 2008 an independent survey that rated SitexOrbis number one for customer satisfaction in its sector in the UK also highlighted ways the business could improve.

The company responded by launching Project Pride with the aim of involving staff in the creation of a more customer-centric approach that, through innovations, would

give customers better results for less cost. Following the introduction of the ‘Ten commandments of customer care’, a ‘Customer commitment charter’, a staff reward scheme for innovation and much training, a continuous improvement programme is in place that incorporates customer ideas, staff ideas and management plans.

Implementation has brought many benefits. Levels of happy customers have increased to 96%. The business has achieved 10% growth despite the recession. Meanwhile, innovations added to core security and cleaning services have helped customers to streamline operations

and reduce costs.

An innovation in access management called eMAKS has already won SitexOrbis three highly prestigious awards this year from industry bodies for replacing thousands of keys with one electronic key that can be reprogrammed remotely by the company. For customers in property management, it means the end of costly and time-consuming key collections. The award is sponsored by AXA PPP healthcare. www.sitexorbis.com Tel: 08000 830 850 info@sitexorbis.com

SAFEcontractor has joined SSIP

EMS (Exor Management Services Ltd) brands, Exor and SAFEcontractor, are now members of the Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) programme, adding a further 8,000 approved contractors that are recognised under the SSIP umbrella. It also brings more than 150 new clients, mainly in the private sector.

Since it was established in May 2009, the SSIP programme has grown to include more then 50,000 businesses that have reached a recognised standard of health and safety.

The audit process for SSIP has created two service levels from EMS: the first is the existing Exor H&S assessment which remains at its current level and the higher level audit undertaken by SAFEcontractor, to meet the standards required by its

private sector clients. For example, SAFEcontractor is recognised by all other members of SSIP as meeting the requirements of CDM 2007 CORE criteria but suppliers who wish to be recognised by SAFEcontractor buyers will need to answer a few additional questions. SAFEcontractor clients and contractor members can be assured that there will be no dilution in the level of assessment and professional approach for SAFEcontractor accreditation. SAFEcontractor will continue its work of improving organisations’ health and safety processes, limiting bureaucracy and duplication, as well as continuing to provide our clients with confidence when selecting their contractors. www.safecontractor.com www.exorms.co.uk
