Gerflor fights the battle against germs with a new bactericidal joint!

Already leading the way with its range of bacteriostatic UPVC handrails, Gerflor’s SPM brand has developed a specially formulated bactericidal joint which helps fight the battle against hospital acquired infections and is suitable for use with all SPM handrails. The joint offers the added advantages of easier handrail installation and neat aesthetics.

According to research, 75-90% of hospital acquired infections are transmitted by hand-borne transmission. The junctions between hand rail profiles and their finishing accessories are recognised as a particularly weak point when it comes to contamination. Potentially, the problem is made worse because uneven wall surfaces can cause joints to be poorly

aligned with gaps occurring which can trap dirt.

SPM’s new bactericidal joint

helps stop the growth of micro organisms at this hygiene critical point and prevents the spread of contamination and HAI. Manufactured from black rubber-based PVC, impregnated with bactericide during manufacture, the new joint is flexible and designed to fill the gap between the handrail components. This stops dirt becoming lodged, allows for an easier installation and creates a neat line rather than a crack.

The impregnated bactericide within the joint does not wear or wash off and reinforces the level of protection offered by SPM handrails. Formed of smooth

bacteriostatic UPVC and independently tested by the Institute of Pasteur Lille (test report no C/0510506M), the handrails are proven to be safe to use in infection critical areas.

Gerflor’s comprehensive range embraces flooring, as well as wall, door and corner protection and provides designers and builders in the healthcare sector with cost effective, seamless, safe and easily maintained solutions for both staff and patients.

BSkyB underlines its commitment to employees with Identicom

BSkyB, Britain’s largest operator of digital television has underlined its commitment to the duty of care of its telecommunications field engineers by purchasing Connexion2’s Identicom i777 lone worker device. Chosen following an extensive evaluation and trial against other lone worker devices, the engineers voted overwhelmingly in favour of the Identicom product.

The Identicom i777 allows a user to retain control of their location data; however should they need assistance current GPS data can be communicated to the Alarm Receiving Centre element of the solution in order for them to be located. This is coupled with standard Identicom functionality of easy wear, discreet use and credible audio evidence capture. “BSkyB takes the Health and Safety of its employees very seriously and, therefore, we investigated a number of lone worker devices”, said Robert Gathergood, Head of Access Implementation at BSkyB. Our trial of Identicom proved successful with very positive feedback from our employees, who found Identicom discreet and easy to use.“

BSkyB has purchased a number of Identicom i777 devices through SoloProtect for their team of telecommunications engineers. SoloProtect is a fully managed service for
