Ingersoll Rand cures hospital access dilemma
Dor-O-Matic automatic doors have been installed as part of a comprehensive refurbishment at the South Tyneside District Hospital in South Shields. To meet the detailed specification, Dor- O-Matic Swing and Sliding doors were installed on the Harton Wing entrance to create an inviting hotel-feel, improving both the aesthetics of the façade and access to the building.
The Dor-O-Matic Sliding door is a reliable and versatile solution, particularly suitable for applications when access is required for heavy pedestrian traffic and where extra wide openings are needed to facilitate the movement of large items such as hospital beds and equipment. On this scheme, Swing doors were also chosen to ensure fast and efficient
opening and closing. In addition, the doors were fitted with the
safe and stylish finger trap feature to provide a high level of draught prevention as well as protecting fingers from accidentally getting trapped. Folding doors were selected for the Maternity Block to provide maximum access where space is limited and were installed both on the outside and inside to form a lobby. This not only creates a draught-proof area but provides protection against bad weather and a contained and secure area for trapping airborne dirt and cleaning shoes. To prevent unauthorised visitors from gaining access to the block through the lobby, the doors were linked to the hospital’s existing access control
system for extra security.
The hospital has also entered into a yearly Maintenance Contract Programme with Ingersoll Rand which includes two visits per year – one of which incorporates a BS7036 ‘Safety of powered doors for pedestrian use’ check. This provides for ongoing maintenance and guarantees continuous operation and trouble free performance.
