We have also improved bandwidth scheduling capabilities within the product, which adds to the overall ease of use.
SNS: And what does the MIMIX Availability 7 product bring to the market?
AA: MIMIX is designed to provide high availability across IBM platforms. With the latest version, MIMIX provides automated system optimisation as a core part of the product. With the added system optimisation features, MIMIX customers will experience a more optimised high availability environment through better storage utilisation, improved application and batch performance, and faster backup operations. By optimising the base platform, customers not only benefit from protection, but better overall performance as well.
We have also put together a Vision Solutions Portal (VSP) that provides a customised view of the MIMIX Availability 7 environment for monitoring, management and control, and
Application
Group Support, so users can now consolidate multiple data groups into a single application group.
This
means that customers can switch multiple data groups with a single command.
SNS: What other technology/ product developments can we expect in the coming months?
SNS: And can you provide some details of the recent refocusing of the Double-Take products to make them, if you will, more virtualisation-aware?
AA: We are very focused on Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware, working closely with both organisations to ensure our customers are getting the type of high availability solutions and disaster recovery solutions they need to address their outstanding issues. Specific new features include support for auto- provisioning of virtual machines as well as can the choice of dynamic disks or fixed disks for automatically provisioned virtual servers.
At a broader level, we see that while virtualisation has made some elements of continuity easier, there are still problems in the recovery element. For example, customers with low bandwidth connections between sites face problems with getting data from one location to another; the amount of time to recover a virtual machine can still be significant as well. Our history is in working with customers that have challenges around the amount of bandwidth available to them in order to protect their machines across both physical and virtual platforms; we have also looked at ways to reduce the amount of time that companies have to spend on recovering their virtual machines.
AA: For our Double-Take Windows solutions, we are excited about the new version of our Unified Console.
This
new console is going to simplify the management of advanced virtualised environments for our customers running our products.
The backup and recovery software market is very competitive right now. What are the USPs that will help Vision to maintain and build upon its current market position?
Vision has a wonderful portfolio of solutions to address any customers’ server high availability issues, as well as products that can complement these offerings.
We also want to build on our solutions that use the cloud: Double-Take Cloud was the first solution to offer recovery in the cloud and this is particularly important for SMBs that don’t have the large budgets to support a second data centre. We have also seen interest from enterprise organisations that want to move non-critical information availability into the cloud for reasons of cost.
Our solutions have been built to offer the best levels of data protection and availability, irrespective of what platform a customer has chosen to implement underneath the workload. We can migrate customers to and from different platforms, including between hypervisors and to
