BLACKPOOL SHOW

A Sunny Outlook From Blackpool

many footwear retailers will attest every year is challenging. And 2011 will, it would appear, be no different, with the VAT increase and Government cuts softening consumer confidence even more, it’s certainly going to be a little austere. But put the doom and gloom aside for a moment. It’s important

to remember that what we all sell is somewhat of a necessity with our climate and it is a matter of making the right selections; which finally brings me to my point, your first proper chance to start making selections comes towards the end of January at the Imperial Hotel Blackpool with The Blackpool Show. Unique within the exhibition calendar it is a show organised by the wholesalers and importers who exhibit there. The show was revised and re- launched a couple of seasons ago in its current format and has now successfully carved its own distinct niche in the trade.

riting as I am pre Christmas about January’s Blackpool Show it has forced me to look beyond the seasonal festivities and towards the coming year. Much has been said about the fact it will be another challenging year but as

Compact and informal, Blackpool allows retailers to put

together a detailed picture of what is coming through for the season and what key buys they need to make and as the show has some of the most competitively priced wholesalers in attendance, it’s also a great place to put down orders. Sales Director and co-organiser of the show Conrad Dempsey said “Keeping things informal works well for us and the independents we feel we can spend more time with them and be more relaxed. We get a good early indication of styles that are working and the retailers can get ahead of the curve with their buying for Spring/Summer.” With a strong emphasis of the social side it is also well worth scheduling time to stay over.

So if you are looking to stay ahead of the less fleet of

foot in the trade keep some space in your diary for the 22nd to 24th of January and take a trip to Blackpool. You’ll be sure of a warm welcome. sales@j-b-i.co.uk
