Fisher maze for Mexico

Mexico’s first mirror maze will open in 2011 thanks to a deal between former IAAPA chairman Rene Aziz and England’s Adrian Fisher Design. Aziz’s Grupo Divertido operates 17 family entertainment centres (FECs) across Mexico and the new maze, theme to be revealed, will be installed at the Gran Plaza Mall, Guadalajara.

Design has created 35 mirror mazes across Japan, China, Thailand, India, the Middle East, UK, France, Germany, the Netherlands and United States. Aziz and Fisher were introduced by Bob Masterson, for whom AFD produced a “Palace of Sweets” mirror maze in Wildwood, New Jersey. The maze in Mexico will be manufactured locally by the company Deportan.

Movie Park Germany plans one-of-a-kind

A one-of-a-kind attraction is promised for the forthcoming 15th anniversary season at Movie Park Germany in Bottrop, North-Rhine Westphalia. Housed inside the old Gremlins building, it will be themed by TAA Industries using a major licensed property to be announced and feature a ride system by Gestlauer. “We are very glad that the new owner Parques Reunidos has agreed to invest in a new attraction,” says general manager Wouter Dekkers. “The new attraction is also a good opportunity to renovate the nearby restaurant Music Club.”

In line with the rest of the industry, Movie Park Germany finished the 2010 season slightly down, with just shy of 1.2 million visitors. Bad spring/summer weather and the football World Cup are blamed for the drop, although the park’s Halloween Horror Fest was, again, a great success. More than 180,000 people visited during the event, with almost 40,000 tickets pre-sold. The 2011 season starts on April 1, with the new ride scheduled to open in June.

Madame Tussauds Blackpool

The ultimate celebrity attraction, Madame Tussauds has a global reputation for high quality, lifelike wax figures and will soon be coming to Blackpool, replacing Louis Tussauds Waxworks on the promenade.

Opening in April, Madame Tussauds Blackpool is one of several The old Louis Tussauds exterior

attractions being developed in the British resort, and will be the 11th such outlet worldwide. As well as dozens of “new” famous faces, interactive sets will encourage visitors to ‘take part’ in the action themselves.

Merlin, which already operates a Sea Life aquarium in the town, is also working on a redevelopment of Blackpool Tower, where it will open a Dungeon attraction. The newest Madame Tussauds opened recently in Bangkok.
